Horse archers ruin every game they are in.
  • I guess they wanted a change after Keshiks and Camel Archers being completely busted in Civ V.

  • Patch Insights: Deadlock's Map Got Bigger and Now You Must Go Zoom
  • I'm wary against the game becoming too snowbally. Dying one time on lane before was no big deal, it was often like a limit test reality check. You could afford to get caught out once and the consequence being more or less "alright damn, gotta be more careful this game". Now it feels like one death can lose you the lane. Probably not an issue in high MMR lobbies but I'm afraid it will lead to swingier games in low MMR.

  • Patch Insights: Deadlock's Map Got Bigger and Now You Must Go Zoom
  • Good video. Definitely have mixed feelings about the changes to early laning. I'm sadly out of town for a few days now but will have to see what the meta is like when I come back. Initial impressions post patch was that it felt a bit too punishing when it comes to early laning. Might well be the devs wanted a push in a certain direction and that the meta will have to adjust. Extra Regen + Restorative Shot seems very attractive in lane now instead of a greedier build.

  • If you're worried about bugs I think you should be able to get Mod Organizer 2 running on Steam Deck, and with all the various stability mods installed New Vegas runs fairly well. The Viva New Vegas mod guide is a great place to start, it should have most of what you need to get going.

  • Day 72 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • Alex Casey (the detective from Alan Wake's books) is essentially Max Payne - they had to change the name when making Alan Wake 1 because Rockstar had bought the IP.

There are callbacks in AW2 in both narration, atmosphere and character design that I really enjoyed, but you won't miss out on anything story-relevant if you haven't played it. Watching a couple of minutes of cutscenes from Max Payne 1 on YouTube is probably enough to get most of the references.

  • Nintendo's lawsuit against Palworld isn't just bad for the industry, it's bad for Nintendo
  • To be honest, when Nintendo has gotten to the point where this story sounds perfectly plausible you can't say they don't deserve all the hate they get (and more, frankly).

The only thing keeping them below Disney on my shit list is that Nintendo seem to act more like the grumpy out-of-touch old man, while Disney is fine being just overtly evil (see the recent wrongful death lawsuit debacle).

  • Day 73 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (Bulk Photo Post)
  • Love it! The level designs are so cool in Lonesome Road, and I agree that the final battle felt very cinematic in a way that a lot of other New Vegas fights don't.

People love or hate Ulysses but I enjoy him as a character. I think the story as it ties through all the DLCs is very cool and the climactic, desolate journey through LR to cap it off was great for me.

I was planning on picking up Lily but I can't remember how to get her as a companion.

I think all you need to do is finish the sidequest for the doctor in Jacobstown.

  • Remedy and Tencent enter into a $17m loan agreement that could lead to it owning a larger chunk of the Alan Wake developer
  • Funding is important, especially if you want to self-publish like they seem to intend to (thank god for no more Epic Exclusives) but I can't help but feel a bit sad about these news. I hope Tencent won't be a large enough shareholder to exert any influence over Remedy creatively.

  • Day 72 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • Alan Wake 2 is amazing, but with the interconnected Remedyverse being what it is it also sort of wants you to "do your homework" - the experience is definitely enriched by having played Max Payne and Control before (with the AWE DLC of the latter being a direct bridge to AW2). The Quantum Break overlap is much more minor as they don't own the rights to its IP. It's fun for those who played it, but not necessary and not important.

  • !esports@lemmy.zip For all things esport related!
  • If going by viewers I can't imagine it's anything other than League of Legends. Which is funny because people tell me it's a fairly shit spectator sport (stale meta, low kills etc).

  • Day 72 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • Glad you found the toaster! It's probably my favourite too, though I also loved the jukebox having an affair with the light switches. I hope you'll enjoy Lonesome Road, it's my personal favourite DLC I think, though objectively OWB is probably better. I just love the vibes and the levels in LR.

Two very different games in the pipeline after. Alan Wake II was my GOTY last year so hard not to recommend it here. Have you played the preceding Remedy games?

  • Deadlock 09-26-2024 Update
  • Lots of big changes, very interested to see how it shakes out. Rejuvenator even more important than ever, now.

Hoping the nerfs to Haze are enough, she was clearly out of hand. The Unstoppable nerf will force her to commit, but it looks like some other item interactions might work now which could end up being a buff?

Both Torment Pulse and Escalating Exposure buffed, love that as I am basically a one-trick with those builds.

  • "news" article pretends not to understand why two very different shows in two separate genres on two totally separate networks aren't judged exactly the same way.
  • The article itself brings up viewer retention, which would be a fair comparison if there were actually more than one Penguin episode available. Otherwise while context will be important I do think comparing viewership-to-budget is fair.

Anyone else struggling to enjoy the game due to insane skill gaps and horribly lopsided matchmaking?

Out of every 10 games I play, maybe one of them is a close, even game where everyone is on roughly the same skill level - and that's probably me being generous.

Almost every game has people on either team not just losing their lane but going something like 0-17. I know it's early alpha and has had a huge influx of players recently so maybe it's to be expected to some extent, but even back in my Dota days matchmaking was never this bad. This is like, public WC3 Dota 1 lobbies level.

How are you guys finding it? Anyone break through the MMR barrier into a point where you're getting consistently good games? How long did it take, and what MMR? (you can check here

    Rowland S. Howard, "Autoluminescent"

While still holding out hope of one day seeing his book (the excellently titled "etceteracide") released, a song lyric will do. RSH was great with words, and I always thought this read pretty well as a poem.

    > Three weeks into her presidential run was the first time the Biden campaign’s pollsters — now hers — held a deep-dive call with Kamala Harris’ inner circle to discuss what she’s been saying on the stump.

    > Over the line came a lot of praise, but also some suggested tweaks. First, said veteran Democratic numbers man Geoff Garin, summarizing their analysis, stop saying, “We’re not going back.” It wasn’t focused enough on the future, he argued. Second, lay off all the “weird” talk — too negative.

Yes, stop using the two approaches that has been most effective. Absolute genius. I can't for the life of me see why the Dems have a reputation of shooting themselves in the foot.

EDIT: Thankfully Kamala trusted her instincts and has had the good sense to ignore said advice so far

Sweden takes gold in Beach Volleyball with its innovative jump-set style

Sweden defeats Germany for first-ever beach volleyball gold medal

It's a crazy story of the coaches Rasmus Jonsson and Anders Kristiansson - from Sweden of all places - theorising about ways to innovate the sport, and then scouting young talents to coach this method into from an early age. And years later, their pupils claim the Olympic gold. What a story.

If you want to read more about the new style here is an article about it.

O’Donnell ripped cable news networks for carrying the event live and called it “2016 all over again,” adding that outlets are making the “same mistakes” with their reporting as they did while covering Trump that election cycle.

He also criticized reporters for not asking follow-up questions and knocked networks for fact-checking only after Trump finished speaking.

When did the (first) golden age of PC gaming end?

Let's see if this community still is active.

I'm not sure if it's officially agreed upon, but I would say the release of Doom in '93 properly marked the beginning of a golden age of PC gaming. Modern homogenisation and monetisation hadn't set in yet and over the next decade or so the PC gaming landscape would be full of innovation and passion, with a sea of classics being released in that time frame... but when did it end? Was there a specific watershed game that signalled a shift in the landscape?

This topic has been on my mind for a while, because I've pondered on whether there is an open niche for a community dedicated to games of this era. They're not quite at home in Retro Gaming subs, but still old enough now that they might warrant their own corner separate from main gaming spaces.

For those who have played both the originals and the Early Access, how well does BG3 capture the feel?

I'm not particularly worried about whether BG3 will be good or not since D:OS 1&2 were both excellent, but I'm a little worried about it feeling like a Baldur's Gate game and not Divinity: Dungeons and Dragons.

How is the writing style and atmosphere? Does the story connect in any meaningful way? Are there any recurring major characters, hopefully even potential party members? In short, does it feel like a Baldur's Gate game?
