Is anyone familiar with this alert? I believe it is Motorola-specific
  • I'm not familiar (although these kind of things is what me made leave Moto), so i can't help you with any information about it. However, why not trying ADB to remove Motorola bloat and see if the issue's still there?

Man it is sad to see what has become of Motorola these days... Will probably never get another one if they continue the bloat and invasive software. How i loved my Moto G2 back then...

  • Google is now rolling out Gemini Live to free users on Android
  • I don't really mind Google related Android posts here, but it seems like you are just spamming and copy paste everything that's on 9to5Google etc. I know this probably isn't against any of the rules but it is getting a little annoying because most of them is just Google stuff and Google stuff only... And a lot of them are not really... interesting. At least, not to me.

I hope that i'm not the only one, and that i'm not out of line for saying this.

  • Fairphone releases a Fairphone 5 with 6gb RAM and 128gb storage for €150 less
  • I agree, to some level at least. It is not good enough in its current state as my daily driver, but i do believe the hardware is good. Not €700 good (more like 300 good, if we don't talk about 'fair' products). If the software was better, i would've used it as my daily driver.

I don't care about the fingerprintreader and camera for example (but i do understand that it is a dealbreaker for some). I think the camera is actually pretty good (again, not €700 good, might be somewhat software related). I think the vibrationmotor and battery are the things that are the worst on the FP5.

I just wished they focused on software and better new parts for once, instead of earsbuds, new versions of phones etc. They can improve what is already there, for the most part...

I wished i tried out the FP4 first, because for now it is 700 not very well spent. Hope that can change in the future.

  • Fairphone releases a Fairphone 5 with 6gb RAM and 128gb storage for €150 less
  • Well, that might go a little far, but they need to step up their game when it comes to software: that's where they currently lacking. Too many bugs, bad optimization and unpolished designs. That's why mine is now my secondary device, which i probably want to use to try out custom ROMs. Hope they find a way to improve their software team (better and more developers, perhaps more colabs with Nixos, Graphene etc.)

Couldn't find another decent link in that wasn't written in Dutch, but you'll find it at the bottom of the story.

Besides the storage and RAM, nothing else has changed.

    Google Finally Launches Android 15
  • This is probably the least exciting Android "update" to date, for me at least. These are basically all just options that could've been added with regular updates. Charging to 80% is nice tho. Hate the new, Apple-like, default bluetooth setting (thank god that you can turn that off, although it doesn't look good for the future...)

  • Why People Arent Buying Sony Xperia Phones
  • Poor updates (policy), overpriced for the specs. I mean, 400-500 for a phone with a SD695 and 60hrz? Come on... Such a shame, because they are the only ones with a screen without a punchhole/camera cutout...

  • Where submit a feature suggestion for Android ?
  • I guess Settings App -> System -> Feedback. But i think this is an OS feature request (like Jet in the other comment said), which is being handled by the manufacturer of the device you're using instead of the actual AOSP. I'm not sure where you can leave feedback for AOSP, if that's possible at all. Hope someone else can add that here.

  • Notification access for sideloaded apps
  • Go to settings -> apps -> the app you want the restriction gone -> the 3 dots top right

I think you can turn it off there. It is an extra security layer design by Google, because without that restriction and with the access turned on, the app can see pretty much all your touches and swipes, notifications and whatnot throughout the system etc. Edit: spelling

  • The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 appears on Geekbench
  • I hope that Google releases more tablets and give landscape orientated designs a little more love, something that is currently falling behind by many many apps (many don't have that options at all). That could really make a difference once they DO decide to implement desktop mode.

Maybe they could experiment with some forced landscape mode or something? (If that does already exist, let me know because Nothingphone has removed homescreen rotation for no reason).

I would like to see that coming more to smartphones anyway. Phones are so big these days, landscape mode gets really comfortable because of it IMO.

  • Why is it the best? Why does it stand out? Why do you recommend it? A little more info etc would make this post seem much less like an invasive ad... Edit: this as reply to you comment: why the downvotes

  • A little rant about the Android operating system
  • While i agree and support a lot with what you are saying / trying to do, i'm not sure this is the right way to reach people. I'd say keep your blog going, but try find some nicer words and images and such (not the Anonymous kind of stuff..). The content comes off a little... strange (the word 'cringy' in the other comment was kinda wellplaced too), i hope you anderstand.

And i'm afraid most people won't be reached at all unless other ROMs are more (easier) available, like being pre-installed on devices you buy in stores.

Wished i could be of help in any way, i like your intentions and input!

  • Fairphone removed OAD for 'better battery life' and other software issues
  • Thanks for the recommendation. I'm not sure if i want to want to continue using Google services at all, since i use my Fairphone as a secondary device. If MicroG is optional, or if i decide i do need some Google services, it might be worth it. First i'll see how a degoogled Android suits me

  • Fairphone removed OAD for 'better battery life' and other software issues
  • I very much agree. Would call that a win-win situation for everybody: we get more privacy and better performance, they have more time and money for innovations and releasing more (different) products globally.

  • Fairphone removed OAD for 'better battery life' and other software issues

Let me start with saying that i love Fairphone's concept and overall products. But... I really think Fairphone needs better software developers/designers, and most likely more of them too. Android 14 came in late, and did not much good in my opinion (besides giving the option to change the 'recent' and 'back' buttons position and improving notifications and calls volume).

Now they are removing features instead of fixing them. Also, the overall UI seems not to be polished very well (part of screenshot as an example in comments). The default launcher sometimes lags/freezes, framerate sometimes still struggle to be a stable 90fps, you still need to confirm your pincode in lockscreen (minor annoyance) and some, IMO, ugly design choices. Have yet to discover if other issues are (still) there, but will probably flash a custom ROM soon.

    What are your thoughts/experiences?

Installing Android 14 on Fairphone 5 now.

Hope they were able to fix the issues and optimize the overall UI. Let me know if you have questions! Will be able to answer them soon.

I noticed a white hue on the top of the screen and ONLY on the homescreen. I thought it was a Fairphone 5 issue, but now i noticed it on my Nothing Phone 2a (photo)as well. What is it?

After i got my Fairphone back from the repaircenter (they thought there was something wrong with it), they told me it was an intended design. However, i see other people mention they don't have it.
