Plan9 inspired OpenBSD

Hey everyone!

Recently managed to figure out my memory issues, had a corrupt ram that I needed to replace. Openbsd has now been running great and all the memory issues are gone.

I fell in love recently with dithered images, it creates an amazing aesthetic.

Setup:

OS - OpenBSD
Term - Xterm
Shell - sh
WM - cwm
Font - Go Mono
Applications - imv, vim, xclock

My vim theme is a slightly modified version of the default quiet theme. Just changed the background and comment color.

Third time's the charm!

  • OS: OpenBSD 7.5-current amd64
  • Host: Lenovo ThinkPad T400
  • WM: cwm
  • GTK Theme: Mint-L-Dark-Purple
  • Icon Theme: GNOME-Noble
  • Font: spleen

  • Shell: ksh
  • Browser: Tor Browser
  • Editor: nvim
  • Terminal: Sakura

I plan to make my own GTK theme for this machine, but Mint-L is a pretty good fit for now.

  • I plan to make my own GTK and Qt themes for this machine, but Mint-L is a pretty good fit for now.
  • OpenBSD-current is fairly unstable. I'll be switching back to -stable or -release when 7.6 is released in October.
  • I picked the Polybar colour scheme from Amethyst (the character from Steven Universe). This is what I will use for the custom GTK and Qt themes.

Dynamic desktop (large gif)

This has been my setup for the last few months.

The animated wallpapers are displayed by Paperview (+ my pull request so it could be made to work with picom). I took gifs from various sources, converted them to collections of BMP files with ffmpeg, removed artist signatures (sorry) by copying parts of the images over themselves with ImageMagick, and integer scaled them if necessary.

Since I mostly live in Emacs (config), system information is shown in its tab bar instead of the top panel (which is tint2). All the icons in the tab bar are simple XBM icons I made, and some (like the volume icon) actually change dynamically. The current playing song description resizes according to the space left in the tab bar, and cycles if necessary.

CWM is also customized to add click-to-focus (but not raise) and remove some stuff I don't like.

Theme switching is handled by a hacky Perl
