Eternity v0.1.0 released!

A Lemmy client forked from the Infinity for Reddit project

Hello everyone!

I've just released the first version of Eternity (after changing the name from Infinity for Lemmy). It's been long overdue, but I wanted to finish a few features before this update. This release includes various fixes and new features, such as:

Blocking users/communities
List blocked users/communities
Separate up/down votes (can be disabled in the settings)
Private messages
Content reporting
New themes (including a new default one!)
Fixed various crashes.

And a huge thank you to everyone who provided feedback, translated the app, or contributed in any form during the testing phases of this release. Your insights and suggestions were invaluable in making Eternity better for all users. I'll continue to gather feedback and make improvements in the coming updates, so please don't hesitate to reach out with any further thoughts or issues you might encounter. Many translations to be done, with new features and previous untranslated.
You don't need to do all it once, just some words per day
- I currently get this error when trying to access a specific language.

Coming along very nicely. I love how all the reddit stuff is now gone (as far as I can see). The app feels independent now. I'm freaking loving it.

If you could add a feature to see and an option to subscribe to all communities from an instance, it would be nice.
Select any post, see the instance info, view all communities associated with it, subscribe to what you like

I have nothing but gratitude for the team since I was browsing reddit for years(the platform always made me want to switch because of the shitty app) but infinity saved it. I was dailying a very old phone with an android 11 rom(bacon) which shat itself in terms of battery and heat when running the reddit app
I have been missing it a lot for the past few months and I recently tried infinity for lemmy(it was around .6 release I think or in between .6 and .8)
I think I'll keep using eternity, for eternity :P

When I try to see my profile, the app crashes. Anybody else?
Edit: It crashes when trying to see any user profile, not just mine.
- Seems to only happen when User Default Sort Type is set to Top in the Sort Type settings. Changing it to New or Old fixed it for me.
  Edit: or make sure you also set a User Default Sort Time if you're going to be using Top.

- Hmm.. It works on my end. Is this a new issue in this update?
  It would help me out a lot, if you could share the crash stacktrace? You can find it under the Settings > Advanced > Crash report option. This sounds like a critical bug.

  I think its a new issue, because I have been using the nightly version and its working has expected there.

The update is great! But I have one small issue. I use the compact display mode and it used to display the community/instance and the username of the OP on the post. The new update changed something and now it does not display the username on posts.
- Another issue I've run into with this update: I can't click "load more comments". Every time I do, the app crashes. I've tried clearing the cache and restarting my phone. No luck, same issue.

It's pretty great, but what was the original theme? I preferred it.
Edit: I think it's ~~carbonfox~~, although it's not quite the same as it used to be.

And separation of upvote and downvote can be toggled in settings under Interface -> Post

Just tried the new update and it seems to have fixed a lot of issues in the app, but now I can't seem to import new themes into the app anymore, it just says unable to parse theme.
- Ohh, no. I will look into that!

After updating, I just got a blank screen after launching. Killing the app and clearing cache didn't help, I had to clear the app data completely.
Then I browsed for a bit and it happened again, just a completely blank screen out of nowhere (I was either just browsing or opening a post). I don't see anyone mentioning it on Codeberg, is it just me?

App just changed its name but I was thinking Beyond for lemmy would be a good name. You know, Infinity and beyond quote from buzz lightyear. Thanks for blessing us with this beautiful app btw.

I still don't see the update on F-droid, is that normal?
- F-droid usually lags a day or so behind. If you want immediate updates, check out Obtanium

Is it possible to bring back the random community function again? That was the main appeal of the old infinity for me.

I loved that on Voyager! So glad you added that, thank you! (Looks weird for posts with ≥1000 points btw. Edit: only when "show absolute number of votes" is enabled.)
I also love how account names and community names are displayed now. Looks great!

Just tried it and I love it. Probably my second best UI Interface after Summit's UI. They're kinda Similar. I wonder if Summit's developer took some inspiration from Infinity's UI. Thanks for the Amazing work, Dude.

I'm confused about the plus button? It's always there and it asks me about a user when I press it outside of the feed? Also why did the theme change.

Just updated and now the app flickers? It's like one of those epilepsy videos. it shows 1 frame of the app, then 1 frame black then my phone background and repeats rapidly. I downloaded it from obtainium and i use a pixel 7 with graphene os, if that helps.
- Just reinstalled it. First time opening it worked fine after closing the app and reopening the problem is back.
