Not a very old game, but I just picked up the "Ultimate Edition" for €10 on sale, first time I've touched a fighting game since the first Soul Caliber on Dreamcast.
It seems to have a mountain of content, doesn't take itself too seriously (Rambo Vs. Robocop!), and isn't full of long combos, flashing lights, or confusing perspective changes.
I'm not normally one for fighting games, but it's being a lot of fun for me right now :-)
Yes, MK11 is a good game, and I don't really play fighting games (normally i'd just go thru every characters and try out their flashy moves).
But MK11's story mode is really good. The story is nothing groundbreaking, but it's really fun and entertaining, and it shuffles the characters you play as, and that's the strength of the recent Mortal Kombat games over other fighting games.
Also, if you want to save money on fighting games, always wait a year or two, there's always an ultimate edition with all DLC characters in it, that's probably selling at half price.
It doesn't make sense for casual fighting game fans to buy fighting games day one anymore.
I'm looking forwards to getting stuck into the story mode this weekend, though I have to wonder if I'll be able to finish it given how long it's been since I've played anything that needs reflexes, lol
Mostly I got the game to play with my partner, and on that front it's been excelent so far :-)
This is how I play fighting games these days. Wait for the dirt cheap ultra collection.
I think I got MK 11 for like $20 a while back and certainly got that much enjoyment out of it. Story mode and tinker around with the guest characters a little bit.
I just play them single player, so I'm in no rush.
