tumblr ceo is having a transphobic meltdown

completely nuking like a dozen trans women's accounts after tumblr user predstrogen got banned so hard every single image she ever posted got deleted (which isn't how tumblr bans work), and claiming the og ban was because of threats towards him. the one threat he could point to was this

he said tumblr would work with the fbi to investigate this shit

this is why its incredibly important for trans people to have their own spaces independent of the corporations. you should plug hexbear, ik its not like tumblr but at least its independent

Why do we wrongly have a transphobe reputation? We did have an external contract moderator last year that was making transphobic moderation
If your website has a transphobe reputation because it did transphobic things, can you really say you wrongly have that reputation?
- he literally admits in the post that the website has had transphobic moderation policies as recently as last year! that's not wrongful! he doesn't even mention that the website settled when it was sued for transphobic moderation policies back in 2022 as well. tumblr's reputation as transphobic is hard earned

It’s weird how Tumblr is always portrayed online as this super SJW, militantly pro-trans website. I practically grew up posting there and ran into a TON of weird reactionary communities (school shooter fan fic writers, proto-trad wives, pedo and rape apologists, eugenicists, ´ironic’ nazis). I didn’t know about terfs until I came across their Tumblr accounts.
- there's a fairly strong community of communists and trans people on tumblr but like any other website that isn't explicitly designed as a space for trans people and communists there's plenty of reactionary horseshit as well

  My pet conspiracy theory is that a lot of the "SJWs" who preached revenge against men or shit like that were all feds trying to do full character assassination of the LGBT identity in its entirety. Still fucked up over the reveal that the rampant issue of targeted moderation based transphobic harassment was, in fact, not exaggerated or imagined by the tumblr userbase, and bad enough that even the CEO (as seen above) was forced to admit that a bad actor was given keys to tumblr moderation and used it to be extremely transphobic, for months, despite many users recording and reporting the moderation actions
and the CEO has stated that tumblr staff will prevent this from happening again by uhhh uhhhhhhhhh
- it's wild that it was literally active transphobia by tumblr moderation! i'd assumed it was all passive stuff, them not caring that terfs had figured out how to abuse the system, but no! it was on purpose!

Now I'm not one of them there tech guys. I'm just a humble poster, and am neither a tech or a guy. But. Were I the public face of the website tumblr.com there is precisely one group of people with whom I would not engage negatively, and it would be gender and sexual minorities. I'm just putting it out there. After that it would be homestuck fans.

It's been so weird to see the perception of Tumblr shift from the "SJW platform" to the CHUD platform in the past few years. I don't know if it has actually changed, or if all the decent people just left, leaving the worst folks still there, but its been weird to see.

  That's good to hear, I guess banning porn would've gotten rid of a lot of the CHUD audience there, people said the website was "finished" when that happened, but it's kept going just fine without that particular audience.

I just want to note that from everything I've read about this, it's specifically trans women being targeted, not just trans people in general. It's not (just) transphobia, it's transmisogyny. And some of the online discussions I've been seeing about this are using the chance to complain about how trans women talking about their specific oppression are the real transphobes anyway, which is infinitely infuriating to me.
- that's very much true, and the woman who got targeted at the start was well known for (among other things) talking a lot about transmisogyny. which makes the people bitching and moaning about how people talking about it are the real transphobes even more infuriating if that was at all possible

also of all the bigger and older online social networks I would've assumed Tumblr would be the most accepting of the transcommunity since they seemed to be so welcoming of sexuality-based content iirc. I never had an account there nor did I visit it on purpose, but from time to time I'd follow a link to tumblr and it almost always ended up in sexual content
edit: i guess my pi-hole blocks tumblr, so i probably haven't seen the site in at least 4 or 5 years
