Deserving. There's a lot to be said about making way for new animation talent but Miyazaki put out one of his greatest movies with this one. It's beautiful and moving and I had to pee the entire time I saw it and didn't want to get up and miss anything
I love Studio Ghiblis films. Yes, most of them are slice of life and have a similar feel, but they stay far away from fanfare tropes and that's just refreshing. The characters are fleshed out and dynamically complex.
This makes me even more salty I couldn't watch it in cinema. The only show times were on weekdays anywhere between 10:00 - 14:30.
Luckily they sometimes do reruns of Ghibli movies.
I loved how autobiographical this movie was. Miyazaki experienced firebombings during WW2 as a child and now as an old man is seeking an heir to pass his kingdom onto.
