If you want to watch shows that don't sexualize, don't watch show that do. While anime as a genre certainly has a higher rate than others, it's not alone.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the international market is still very much an afterthought for Japanese studios. As long as Japanese viewers still watch those shows and buy the merch, you boycotting them will do absolutely nothing.
The problem is lumping all anime together like it's one thing. It would be like comparing toddler toons like bluey, to teenager cartoons (teen titans), to adult ones (st: lower decks).
Shonen (adolescent target) manga/anime is by far the most popular category, but that means a lot of the set/place/characters are of teenaged nature and teenaged topics since that is what is most interesting to that aged group. A dash of sex sells (basic fanservice) and you get a highly competitive target audience in teenagers.
Even western teenager cartoons are a bit sexualized (teen titans) - just to western standards so it's less noticeable and more in our appetite.
If you apply your 10% standard to western cartoons as a whole you probably fail your own test.
If you DO want to enjoy any cartoons I do think it's important to find stuff that looks interesting to you, for anime maybe getting into some of the more adult stuff, or the stuff for teens or kids that didn't do the sex sells part.
I wouldn't take this as a defense of anime - I don't even watch anymore, but just providing the context around why you see what you see.
Personally, I'm totally desensitized to this kind of stuff in anime, but I understand your issue. Some people will say, "just don't watch the gross stuff," but I think that's unfair. It's a little bit like asking someone who doesn't like sexism not to consume media which contains it.
Like... That would be miserable. Tons of great movies, tv, books, fiction, nonfiction, etc contain casual, misogynist content. You should enjoy media freely and still be able to complain about it, or advocate for change.
Likewise, tons of excellent Japanese media has questionable, underaged girl stuff in it. It's always going to be weird to a lot of people if it goes unacknowledged.
So... Your opinion might be unpopular, but I think it's totally valid!
I had so many people try to get me into Mushoku Tensei and dropped that shit like a red hot iron when I saw some of the shit that show pulled. People try to play it off, saying "oh it's just part of the MC's arc" when any level of media literacy can tell you it's just pedo bait (it's either played off for comedy, or results in MC being directly rewarded for it). "But the animation and world building are so good!" Y'know what else has good world building and animation? So many things that don't reward the MC for sexually abusing literal children.
Some are creepy, and some aren't. You might just be insufferable. After all, you're the one accusing people of living in a fictional world for not agreeing with your blanket statements. That may be why people just ignore you while you push your narrative.
For context, I generally dislike a lot of anime tropes and I tend to not like most anime...
But judging all of anime from a bunch of specific anime communities on Lemmy is really silly. These communities tend to have the most intense (and often a bit weird) fans.
If you ACTUALLY want to understand anime, you have to actually watch some. It doesn't seem like you're interested in that though based on your replies. Personally, I really enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, though it isn't 100% perfect.
what the fuck even is this post? Asking about something youve never watched? Getting salty with the people who respond to your inane question? Fuck off please.
While I applaud you for actually posting a truly unpopular opinion, I really think that this post crosses a line into a questionably legal area, not to mention it's just fucking sick. You need to get help, that is truly disgusting and hopefully the FBI is closing in on you as we speak.
