Bee stuck on a car antenna
Bee stuck on a car antenna
Saw this in a parking lot today. I feel bad for the bee but that's pretty mildly interesting.
mildly interesting fact about this type of antenna: see this spiralling wire? it's not there for any electrical reason. it's made this way because it was discovered that wire like this makes antennas wobble less in wind, or when vehicle is moving

I’d bet a shrike put it there. They’re known as butcher birds and they skewer their prey before eating.
7 0 ReplyI don't actually think it's impaled though, looks like the antenna just hit the bee in the air and wrapped the body around the antenna from force.
7 0 ReplyOh yeah I think you’re right.

Never knew that before. Pretty savage!
"Some shrikes impale their prey on plant spines within their territories, which serves as a food store and attracts females."

I don't like bees but nothing deserves that.
