Microsoft to Convert Gaming Staff From Temps to Unionized Employees
Microsoft Corp. is converting a group of subcontracted temps into unionized employees, bucking an industry trend and expanding organized labor’s new foothold at the software giant.
This gives me a confused boner.
Seems like a win for labor, but im sure Microsoft gets theirs in the end still
Still, a great sign of the times and good things ahead for the workers!
It makes sense for a company that has such incredibly deep pockets to not put up much of a fight when their workforce wants better benefits and a small raise. Microsoft seems to be relatively unique among publicly traded companies in generating goodwill by not treating workers seeking to unionize horribly
Also all their accessibility stuff
I think taking a more friendly position towards unions was also part of Microsoft's strategy to win regulatory approval of its acquisition of ZeniMax.

The catch it's that their games are still going to suck
Contractors do decent work for cheap but they don't make good games (think of how Halo Infinite was at launch). So, having full time staff is a start, and I'm glad Microsoft is smart enough to know that cooperating with unions is better for Microsoft in the long run.
