Really loved sync, and on principal have quit reddit. I don't know if it does anything, but when I need search results from reddit I view the Google cached version instead.
Looking forward to sync for lemmy (I NEED a read-on-scroll for lemmy, I don't know how everyone else is handling it).
Sync would mark posts on reddit as read when you scrolled past them, even if you didn't read it. Paired with hide read it let you keep viewing content you hadn't seen before. Here so far I just skip a few pages in and hope for the best.
I tried the Revanced patch as well, it worked flawlessly, but oh dude, it was still the official reddit app, it was so bad lmao
I had been using Boost for about 3 years and honestly there is no point of comparison, 3rd party apps are so much better.
I think you misunderstood, I used the revanced manager to patch Sync so I could continue to use it, not the official app to just remove ads (which would still be an improvement).
Here you go. It doesn't violate the terms of service for Reddit to use it this way, but given the fact that blacking out or John Olivering subreddits was also not against TOS but Reddit took action against it, it's strongly recommended you make a new Reddit account if you plan to do this.
End of an era for me. Had the pro version for 11 years and was using the free before that. Most app screentime every day on my phone.
I refuse to install the official reddit app.
Also on Connect and it's daily updates are making it very usable. It's quick, slick, has material you and even the bugs are somehow not really distracting, they don't have a negative impact on the experience.
Mostly things like "1 points" or the not reacting textarea toolbar. It could be coded by me, it makes me already feel at home.
I feel the same about my baconreader app. They're removing it from the play store and I can't bring myself to uninstall it. Idk how long I'll hold out but I might just transfer it to my next phone as a reminder/badge of honor or something.
It really does. I uninstalled it last night, and now there's a big empty space on my phone where Sync is supposed to live. My wife and I were talking about it this morning, and we were talking about it in grief terms. It's kind of like a family member died--a family member who held a lot of memories and history, and so it really is a kind of mourning process.
For what it's worth, that grief is part of what motivates me--like I think many of us refugees--to really push Lemmy and find our ways to get the most out of it. I want to punish the people who did this, and the way to do that is to hurt their bottom line. After I uninstalled Sync, my next step was the data request, and my next few days are going to be converting over bookmarks to their Lemmy equivalents until nothing is left.
There's a Revanced patch for Sync as well as a few other popular apps that let's you continue using 3rd party apps. I'm currently running a patched version of Sync Pro and it still completely works just like it did before.
