What I stated goes both ways: none of the parts involved can justify their actions at this point, both have blood on their hands and there is no true interest in making amends and settling differences for the sake of sparing lives and creating peace.
It's a pretty solid argument that eliminating Hamas is self-defense given that Hamas killed 1200+ people on 10/7, and Hamas will certainly do it again given the slightest chance. Hamas launched something like 5000 rockets into Israel on 10/7 and has continued to launch additional rockets, though their capability to so has been greatly diminished since Israel invaded Gaza.
