goes hard should be on the right, seems more intuitive.
36 0 ReplyAnything with "higher"on the left (goes harder) just seems wrong. Arbitrary choice, sure, but it's what I'm used to.

Calibrating...
Q1: Gwar, Mick Gordon
Q2: Hotline Miami OST
Q3: Nightwish
Q4: Plantasia
15 0 ReplyThat's not my connotation for Nightwish, but only because I learned of them by playing Littlebigplanet 2 haha (Whoever Owns the Night)
They slap though!
5 0 ReplyI was hearing them in the 00s, and their sound had a deliciously sad vibe to my ear.

Following Cartesian quadrants:
Q1: Sunn O)))
Q2: Electric Wizard
Q3: Nine Inch Nails, specifically The Fragile
Q4: Porcupine Tree - Signify
Extra credit:
Left side: King Gizzard, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown
Right side: Delicate Steve, Lemon Jelly, The Orb - The Dream
Top: I'm kinda at a loss here, I can't think of a band that makes you want to kill but has songs that both do and don't go hard.
Bottom: Steven Wilson
14 0 ReplyQ4: Porcupine Tree
God damn if that's not spot-on.
Top: Sevendust? Depends on how harshly you judge butt-rock. Godsmack, same story. Orgy, if you'd put them that far up.
Bottom: to avoid technically repeating Porcupine Tree, I'd suggest Modest Mouse.
3 0 ReplyNote: this is following Cartesian coordinates, so it goes counter-clockwise starting with top right being Q1. I put porcupine tree in bottom right because they don't go that hard, but damn they're depressing.
Edit: Also, I haven't listened to Modest Mouse. I haven't listened to anything depressing in a while. Music plays a big role in my mood, and there's enough depressing stuff going on right now.

I'd give the top of extra credit to Danny Brown or Swans
I keep cracking up at Delicate Steve being perfect for the doesn't go hard slider, though.
2 0 ReplyFUCK I can't believe I didn't think of SWANS. I love Soundtracks for the Blind.
Also Delicate Steve keeps popping into my head because of the joe cappa animation. It's such a funny video.

Looking forward to checking these ones out, thanks
2 0 ReplyFyi Lemon Jelly and Delicate Steve are artists, not albums. I just realized they were listed in a way that might make you think they were albums by The Orb. Also, those three don't really make you want to kill anything tbh, but they're pretty chill and don't really go hard.

TOOL would be EVERYWHERE.
Suicidal tendencies is definitely, want to kill yourself/ others right in the middle, and goes hard.
Melancholy and the infinite sadness by the Smashing pumpkins for wants to make you kill yourself but doesn't go hard.
Metallica, Master of puppets for goes hard, but makes you want to kill yourself.
Andrew Jackson Jihad for goes hard, and makes you want to kill other people. Mostly thinking of "fuck white peope".

I'd like to submit Rick Astley - Never Gonna Stop (not to be confused with his earlier song, and def worth a listen) as slightly southwest of the center

My Morning Jacket - It Beats For You.
Near misses: Phil Collins - Something Happened On The Way To Heaven. (Too far left.) The Mountain Goats - This Year. (Too far down.) Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart. (Too far up and right.)

Human Target Practice - Hail the Sun literally at the end of top left, the entire album is beautiful (Wake - Hail the Sun)
3 0 ReplySour Times -Portishead.
Low Key Suicidal.
Frankly, most of music sung by Beth Gibbons is borderline suicidal. Even the "happy" songs.

1 0 ReplyQ1: Foster The People. "Forgone Destruction." Prodigy, honestly. Stone Temple Pilots.
Q2: Reign In Blood seems cliche because it's the obvious right answer. Meshuggah. KMFDM.
Q3: Third Eye Blind. My Morning Jacket, Z. Frightened Rabbit, Midnight Organ Fight.
Q4: The Caretaker, e.g. An Empty Bliss Beyond This World. Xiu Xiu. The Disintegration Loops. A Momentary Lapse Of Reason. Deathcab For Cutie.
Right: The Mountain Goats.
Top: Wumpscut? High On Fire. At The Drive-In.
Left: Dragonforce. (Yes it's ridiculous. I don't care. Power metal rules.) Lightning Bolt. The Decemberists.
Bottom: The Joy Formidable. Death's Dynamic Shroud. The Barenaked Ladies' "Next Time." A Perfect Circle. The Twilight Sad. The Cranberries. As Tall As Lions.
