The scramble to cover legal bills for former President Donald J. Trump and his associates has prompted what appears to be the largest refund in federal campaign finance history.
No. He didn't pay anything (as usual). Wealthy elites who want him re-elected have been using super PACs to funnel money to help cover bills like this one. Thanks to the loophole of PACs, they can basically throw as much cash as they want at someone beyond the legal personal contribution to a politician.
This PAC is the one who's directly paying the bills, not the orange clown.
I think the poster above you's point was that the people who do work for him usually don't get paid at all regardless of who is paying. Usually Trump would probably just stiff the lawyers so the PAC could use the money for other things like advertising and rallies.
However I think the answer here is the lawyers are demanding the money up front so stiffing them isn't an option.
I know right, that's the real news here. Probably had to because he's really starting to scrape the barrel. If he didn't he'd soon be at just passed the bar.
The graph charting donations received vs when he was indicted and arraigned was one of the more interesting parts of the article to me. I knew that to his supporters the legal news was proof of the deep state and nothing would turn them off of him, but I didn't realize what good press all the news about it would be. I assume the other bumps in the chart are other, smaller news items about him.
