nasal spray addiction

shit sucks. I've kicked H, oxys, a multiple hundred dollar a day cocaine habit, another H habit, the couple years I thought I could just grow poppies and drink tea instead, and kratom. But not oxymetazoline. My nostrils, they call for it. My sinuses, they yearn for it. FML.

  • Oh hey I saw something about this recently. I read the medicine subreddit cuz I’m a weirdo. Dunno if this will be helpful, but here’s what I saw one doctor type person post:

Have them toss out half a bottle of afrin and mix with saline, use that for a week, then toss out half again and dilute again with saline, use for a week, continue diluting until they feel ready to go off. Sometimes a short oral pred burst is needed too unfortunately

  • You can buy saline solution and start watering it down. Makes it easier to stop needing it

  • So my dad used to be addicted to the stuff, and a doctor got him to start using flonase instead, and it really worked. Your sinuses can heal, it just takes time not being inundated with nasal spray.

    • I've got a dr appt in a couple days for something unrelated and I had already planned to ask about switching to something like that. This shit is for the birds.

  • Why do they sell this holy shit

My kid has one that is plain saline not sure if that would help

  • I use the xylitol shit, works wonders and non-addictive

    fucking expensive though

  • On and off recovering oxymetazoline addict since age 8

Saline rinse has kept me clean for at least 5 years but I did have to decline the oxy and ask to wait for a smaller endoscope when an ENT nurse attempted to non-consensually dose me before-hand
