- Unfortunately, it was never going to end up any other way. Israel, despite oppressing the Palestinians and being a shit ally, remains a sacred cow for 4/5s of our politicians.

It's important for the US to make a showing of strength and support for Israel. Doing so deters other actors from getting involved in the conflict. If allies of Hamas decide to join the conflict, it escalates quickly into a region-wide bloodbath. Projecting US power decisively and quickly is the best deterrence against escalation.
