The FIA has approved GM as an official power unit supplier, starting in 2029. The Cadillac team will use Ferrari power units for its first three seasons
There would probably be 1-2 years of the regulations left by then. Seems like an awful lot of effort for that time frame. Why not wait until the next regulations change?
We've had the current engine regs since 2014. That's 12 years. Do we know that the 2030 regs will have engine changes, or will it be aero only like in 2017
They will need infrastructure and processes in place for the next set of regulations anyway. If they're willing to spend the money, surely it's beneficial to gain some experience and not start from scratch in 2030 or whenever.
