This owl is the best example why I think plumicorns don't really serve any purpose.
These are definitely not aiding in camouflage in any way. Even when they're up they are near invisible.
Same with them being for communication or courtship. These are not going to impress anyone. I mean, I find them super cute, but mainly in an ironic way. And for communicating, them fluffing up any other feathers is going to be more prominent.
So what possible function is left?
I'm glad they have them, because they are super cute on these guys, and very cool on a GHO or Eagle Owl, but it's going to take some real convincing to make me think they actually do anything. 😜
