I wish that articles would just call it like it is. There will never be a "release" for this game like traditional games. It was "released" as soon as you could download the first beta after buying it. Everything since has been content updates and big fixes, just like every other game made.
They need to treat it more like an ongoing MMO receiving updates and expansions, not like traditional games with a year or two of support then abandonment and possible sequels.
Yeah, I agree with your overall point but disagree with you that the game will never be released. Mostly for semantic reasons to be honest but I guess that's the kind of person I am.
The release is definitely a pretty arbitrary thing these days even with non MMOs, I'm thinking of Cyberpunk for example where the game had an official release but then became a pretty different game over time as they fixed issues. That said, there was still a release and there will be a release for Star Citizen as well, it's just up to the developer at what point that want to draw that arbitrary line.
I wouldn't call the first Star Citizen we got with just the hangar module a released game. I also wouldn't call the current version a released game because it doesn't live up to what CIG is aiming for for a release version.
Still, like I said it's mostly a semantic thing, I agree with your broader point and get frustrated at all the focus on the game "having no release date". It's technically true but also you can play what's there right now and see the progress happening. After so many of these copy paste articles though I think it's best just to ignore them and continue having fun with the game. Eventually they will cut a release and the headlines will complain about something else.
Tbf not every game breaks as spectacularly as Star Citizen every few updates. I love the game, just pointing out that it's not considered "released" because of how unstable it's always been.
Eh, that's debatable. Every game has issues, many major ones never get fixed
Every Assassin's Creed game released since Origins has randomly crashed my systems to the point it doesn't even get to a BSOD. Stock, no overclocks, and it still does it reliably. Multiple systems and at least two completely different sets of hardware. I went from an Intel/Nvidia system to AMD/Nvidia, to now all AMD and still have this issue with AC games. Different SSDs, different mobos, even memory standards through these changes. None of my current hardware or OS install is the same as it was when this first popped up. Even across an entirely new set of hardware and OS install in a new case. Why only this series of games? Other Ubisoft games are fine. Other series work flawlessly, something about Assassins Creed games starting with Origins are different.
So whenever I see comments about games being especially buggy, I always take it with a good helping of salt and the reminder that individual anecdotal evidence is nearly useless.
What follows, I don't mean as a direct attack on you, just an observation
