6 Maps That Explain Global Supply Chains

Eventhough dated (2014) these maps might be a good starting point for a closer look at supply chains and economic dependencies.

In regards to everyday products this begs the question if people could really go "cold turkey European only". It should be impossible, especially since all manufacturers rely on goods from different countries.

Which doesn't imply, that the gist of strengthening Europe is futil. But it makes clear, that this is a marathon and not a sprint.

  • In my opinion going to the absolute extreme isn't good either.

    To me at least, this movement is about moving MORE revenue away from abroad and back into the EU so we can slowly but surely build up our own markets instead of relying on external countries.

    Just because you buy a Nothing phone produced in China doesn't mean you're not doing good in terms of buying from the EU, more money is still staying here instead of buying an iPhone or Google Pixel.

    • Absolutely. I just wanted to do my part on discussing realistic goals, or at least have a take on dependencies.

      In today’s times I would love to see a more resilient supply chains and markets.

      • 100% agree, its also good to just have this knowledge.

        Would love to see more manufactured in the EU again. Not only to bolster our economy but also just have less dependance (and hopefully also less emissions) for the products we buy.
