I think Hans might even be underselling how important timekeeping has been to humanity through the ages, going all the way back to the first civilizations. Keeping track of the seasons through the motion of the stars was a matter of life or death when you're subsistence farming. Also, navigation relied on accurate clocks to determine longitude for centuries.
