Pirating on Linux

Hello, the only thing from stopping me to fully use Manjaro as my primary daily OS is that pirating on linux is inconvenient. When i install pirated games on Linux they must be really lightweight to support, like Undertale or Papers Please, because WINE uses Vulkan graphics and they are fucking terrible on slightly more heavy games like superhot and shit, this entails having bad frame rate like 20 fps (unplayable). To whoever is using Linux and also pirates games on daily basis, do you also have the same problem? Is there any solution you could suggest me? Thank you

  • Either something is wrong with your setup, or your hardware. Make sure that you're running the right drivers and that you aren't accidentally running on your onboard graphics instead of your dedicated GPU.
Check the general Linux gaming boards, and doublecheck by installing Steam and loading up something heavier from your library if you have any.

Having just finished a DRM unencumbered version of Returnal by the excellent "LinuxRulez!" (linux repacks with all the trimmings) i can tell you that what you're experiencing isn't normal.

  • Can't see anyone mentioning this, but have you tried the johncena releases on 1337x?

All of them are neatly compressed, don't need Steam and I haven't seen a single one that doesn't work out of the box on Manjaro.

    • Never heard about this, thanks i'll try and let you know

  • I finished max Payne 3, classic prey and put 60 hours in Skyrim on a laptop while distro jumping.

Nothing is impossible when you use Linux.

    Good luck!

  • It is inevitable that there will be a performance loss when using wine, but it is usually quite small. Partially/totally broken games aside, if you have a good pc you won't notice the difference.

So, if the fps of games like superhot (a bit ironic example) are terrible for you, I guess there are two options:
There is something wrong with your setup, for example a gpu with little (or no?) vulkan compatibility, or using the nouveau driver instead of nvida.
Or the small difference in performance makes a big impact on your toaster, so you should use using something like AtlasOS, while eating toast.

  • I've had decent success running my fg games through Bottles using the GE Wine runner with VK3D enabled. This includes newer 3D titles running at 1440p on my AMD iGPU.
