Joe Biden and the Dems Helped Build up Trump’s Border-and-Deportation Arsenal
Donald Trump is inheriting the most fortified border in American history, increasingly run by private corporations, and he’s about to use all the power at his disposal to make it more so.
there used to be a tv show named "into the badlands" that depicted a north america about a century or 5 after an apocalyptic war. in it there was a wall that spanned thousands of miles from one ocean to another and nobody knew why it was there or who built it; but its immensity served as a backdrop for small city-state like civilizations that formed around the gaps that were either once gates or openings torn into it.
it was clear to the viewer that it was the united states border wall and it was also clear that the show wanted to the viewer to understand the inanity of building the wall since the characters neither knew nor cared about its origin; where it matters to so many of us in the present day. the show depicted how it stifled travel & trade and allowed for strongmen & juntas to prey upon the travelers who braved its passages.
it reminded me of hadrian's wall or the great wall of china; but unlike those 2, it's historical significance is lost to humanity. it reminded me of the percy bysshe shelley's sonnet about the ancient egyptian monuments and how societies built monuments in the past to their greatness. in the tv show, the wall's scale was larger than any of the monuments in the past, but unlike the ozymandias sonnet, there is no testament to greatness; only the negative impact's of the walls existence on humanity generations after it was built.
i'm convinced that we'll eventually build that wall since so many americans refuse to accept that republicans and democrats alike have been escalating the rhetoric of immigration into the united states; no matter how little it will do to stem the influx of immigrants & refugees that the american empire has created in its actions to acquire more short term profit.
the show poked fun at this too: the people who were exposed to radiation either died horribly or gained superhuman powers and the only messages from the past that the people were heeded were that of american consumerism & religion; since they built other societies on top of shopping malls, mansions, and churches/cathedrals and also heavily prized (and went out of their way to preserve) american cars that still functioned and fashion as their soldiers' garb.
the show did an excellent job in getting their point across without belaboring the lasting impacts of americana; they simply spent a couple of seconds on both the wall or the cultural legacy and went on with the martial arts based sci-fi story that it wanted to tell.
