Speaker quits but consequences of honouring a member of the SS are not over
The Speaker of the House of Commons has resigned after a Nazi was invited into the chamber.
did he resign from just his role as speaker or also as an MP?
The word is he doesn't plan on reoffering for MP but wants to finish his term.
We'll have to draw a line somewhere for what's "enough." The grievances won't stop either way. I don't know where the line is.
Considering that it's the speakers sole perogative to recognize individuals in the gallery, this really should start and end with this resignation.
Only the speaker can regonize someone in the gallery, it's formal parliamentary procedure. Trudeau , cabinet, the liberal caucus, the opposition, the rump, and all other MPs would have had absolutely nothing to do with what happened.
It was a colossal individual fuck up.
I think our opposition found something that will stick. They will have their pound of flesh.
