TikTok says it is restoring service for U.S. users, thanking Trump

- I didn't even want Tiktok to be banned in the first place... but even I can see how dangerous this is.

  The law banning TikTok, which was scheduled to go into effect Sunday, allows the president to grant a 90-day extension before the ban is enforced, provided certain criteria are met.
  Also:
  After the Supreme Court greenlit the law on Friday, the Biden administration issued a statement saying it would not enforce the ban, leaving that responsibility to Trump.
  Though some Senators contradict that.
  Sens. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and Pete Ricketts, R-Neb., also issued a statement celebrating the ban, and saying they don't see a basis for an extension like Trump has proposed.
  "Now that the law has taken effect, there’s no legal basis for any kind of ‘extension’ of its effective date. [...]
  So, we have to let the law play out. It doesn't yet seem like we're abandoning the rule of law at this point.

  First I've ever heard of this. I wish the article explained what the criteria were.
- Dictatorships don't usually end well for the dictators.
  At least that's what history books seem to think.
  
  Yeah that's not true at all. They don't always end well for the next dictator. But a lot of dictators are just fine.
Trump indicated that he wanted it to be available to broadcast his inauguration on Monday.

Biden does a thing, everyone thanks Trump.
- Much like he Afghanistan withdrawal, Trump started it and Biden continued it.
  
  It was cool when Trump negotiated it but a dereliction of duty when Biden did what Trump promised. You can't win with the morons who worship Trump.

I hate TikTok even more now.
- It's to a point my recent Google searches have -tiktok next to -reddit. Annoying that I have to sift through this trash.

- I actually think Meta bought it. Facebook made a tiktok account yesterday, and Shou's profile no longer says "CEO" as of today.

I didn't use it before. I now have more reason to never use it.
Deleted it. I sure as hell don’t want an American propaganda tool sucking up all my data.
My guess is that they are complying with the law and that Tiktok and Meta signed an MOU, so now they can have their extension.
My rationale is that FB made a Tiktok account yesterday, and started allowing people to link their accounts to tiktok. Then when Tiktok came back online Shou's profile no longer said CEO.
This was all a complete waste.
See this? This is my shocked face.
This was so obviously what was going to happen.
