Apparently, bringing up China being authoritarian is now "bigotry". Makes sense now all those comments from .ml users that most people banned from .ml are for bigotry.
"Bigotry" = Anything negative about China or Russia now
YDI, as these comments were obviously bad faith trolling with the sole purpose of starting flame war. None of the comments in the screenshot can be considered a valuable contribution to the discussion in the technology community.
PTB, for made up "bigotry" as a reason for the ban. If they had banned you for trolling, it would have been 100% YDI.
BPR if you were aware of the instance and its reputation. PTB otherwise. Getting a ban from ML for this sort of thing is a something of a right of passage I think lol.
It became a meme to depict Xi Jinping as Winnie the Pooh, and China / Xi's response was to completely ban all depictions or mentions of Winnie the Pooh.
Chinese meme where they compared him to Winni, he cracked down it, the west loved it and adopted it too.
Tankies try to say itโs racist as if it represents all Asians and not just Xi personally, and it originated from China, so itโs doubly not about his ethnicity.
At some point Xi got associated with Winnie the Pooh and imagery of it (usually of Winnie's face being "morphed" into Xi's face) became censored/banned in China
Apparently, bringing up China being authoritarian is now โbigotryโ.
I've noticed this lately in a lot of communities I'm in, most of which that have nothing to do with politics and are centered around Linux/technology. Why are people suddenly getting personally hurt over criticism against their government? Thats the wildest thing I've ever seen, and for some reason it's becoming more of a thing.
The funny thing is, it's not even their government. They're defending an idealized version that only exists in their heads. As far as I can tell, the primary developers are European.
is it a shadow ban? i think the last time my comment showed up with a little crossed out avatar.
my guess was that this was to indicate that .ml banned me, however they cannot stop me from posting as i am on a different instance. just probably not many ppl seeing the comment.
How do you check the modlog on blahah? It's not like a Lemmy server
Edit: I've been site wise perma banned for over a year. It's actually the first thing that comes up for me on there. Makes sense, I'm right wing, and they don't want right wingers over there.
Oooh this is fun, apparently my posts about bicyclists going the wrong way down streets at night without lights while wearing black were misinformation, regardless of seeing another 3 in the last week alone.
I'm just of the opinion that every government in the world is a pile of trash working on hundreds of years old systems built on old technology. They all lie and do horrible things to and in the name of their citizens, who all mostly want to be left alone and have a decent life. Anyone who spends their time Staning for a government is wasting their time, imho.
Also, we're literally just experiencing the same process that happened with the invention of the printing press. Once enough printing presses existed, and a significant number of people who previously did not have a "voice" suddenly had one, there was a long period where nobody really knew what to believe among the competing new ideas where there had previously been nothing. It will take a generation for us to figure out the internet. McLuhan was right, we jump right into new communications mediums without studying them or their impact on societies.
100% The whole point of us, as a species, putting together a representative government is for protection and support. Be it healthcare or "roving bands of outlaws"
Nearly every government currently in existence fails at that
Hell, even monarchistic governments existed for some type of "protection and support." We so need new ideas, both capitalism and communism are old, dead ideas that have valuable aspects that should evolve. But that's just what capitalists and communists hate, is evolving. Communists already seem to think Marx figured out "the solution" even though Marx thought a true Marxist society would need to be in perpetual revolution within itself, because there is no end to history.
If we are not taking the old ideas and improving on them, what the hell are we doing other than stagnating? I think that's the real issue, stagnation of ideas, a lack of social imagination for anything better. In the same way capitalists can see an apocalyptic end of the world but they can't imagine that post-world existing without capitalism, it seems the die-hard communists similarly can't imagine a future without communism.
