I sent this to some friends with my own added text of "Russia: doing a genocide. Israel: totally a-ok, no genocide here, carry on"
One of the people surprised me with a "how can you possibly think Russia isn't trying to genocide Ukraine" and was completely flabbergasted that I was actually suggesting that Israel fucking is.
Even if that's the way you think, I thought my sarcasm was perfectly clear and would be obvious to them what my stance is...
You think you know some people.
- Ukraine: 12,340 civilians killed in nearly 3 years
  Gaza: 44,786 civilians killed in just over a year
  That is 12 times as many. How can ~~you~~ they possibly conclude that Russia is conducting a genocide, but Israel isn't?
  (These are confirmed kills, the actual numbers are of course a lot higher in both cases)
  
  This is complete propaganda, fam. The Gaza death toll has exceeded 200,000 according to Palestinian hospitals… and that figure is months-old. Before they started bulldozing the West Bank.
  Hospitals in Palestine are very meticulous about counting their dead and keeping records. Being under genocidal occupation for decades where Israelis can just kidnap and kill you for fun will do that to a society.
  A certain strain of MAGA really doesn’t like it when you start pointing out basic reality contradicts their entire belief system, careful around these parts!

  Because they are very different conflicts and how each group has been fighting them.
  For example, It is well documented that Russia has been engaging in Russification of the areas of Ukraine they occupy. Russia also has a long, long history of engaging in the practice.

  Also, Ukraine takes steps to shield their population from the fighting. While on the other hand every group that Israel have taken zero action to shield 'their people' from the fighting. While at the same time taking steps to actively endanger civilian lives so they can glorify and use their every death for sympathy.

Clearly the distinction is whether or not the target is an internationally recognized country with borders. You can't genocide a group with a shared identity and no embassies!
