Tom Cruise honoured with US Navy's highest civilian award

Tom Cruise has been awarded the US Navy's highest civilian honour for "outstanding contributions" to the military with his screen roles.

AMUSING, INTERESTING, OUTRAGEOUS, or PROFOUND @lemmy.world

For making Top Gun, a propaganda movie that doubtless funneled thousands or tens of thousands of kids into the military, Tom Cruise has been honored with the US Navy's highest civilian award

  • I was going to say that while his acting was fine in Top Gun and A Few Good Men and such, he's also been paid for that, and I feel that an award should really require going above-and-beyond.

But I looked at the recipients of that medal, and it has a long list of political recipients, people like Jared Kushner. I'm not sure that the medal has a lot of integrity to safeguard.
