The Great Twitter > Bluesky Pro Wrestling Migration
For those unaware, ever since the US Presidential Election there has been a mass exodus of users from Twitter/X over towards Bluesky and this also includes several pro wrestlers, wrestling media and promotions beginning to use Bluesky as their official social media of choice.
To date, AEW and TNA have both joined (ROH too but they aren't active yet) and we've been seeing a big influx of pro wrestlers coming in and reactivating old accounts or creating brand new ones.
Should there be any wrestlers or anyone else you want to point out specifically, drop the info in the comments below (and/or recommend them to the maintainers of any starter packs if they aren't listed).
Hopefully we'll be able to do away with posting twitter links entirely soon!
Edit: EVE, NJPW, and Maple Leaf Pro have all also joined!
We live in the dumbest timeline. We live in the timeline where there needs to be 2 twitters, because the original twitter sold to a guy who changed the core concept of who it was for. Then a clone twitter popped up, and didn't have much popularity.
Now the clone twitter is getting their old users back, because the original twitter decided to be a facist hangout.
Can someone wake me up? This all feels like a very bad dream, where nothing makes sense. It feels very much like the reason I don't understand life, is that it's not supposed to make sense. Eventually I'll wake up, it'll be 1999 again. I'll be 15. None of the stuff about Vince McMahon pooping on womens heads will be true. Chris Beniot won't be a murderer. 9/11 won't happen. Al Gore will win the election and tackle climate change for the next 8 years.
Let me know when the dust settles and Bluesky actually has content, and I'll check it out again.
I'm not joining another thing just for everyone to not bother their asses using it, I've already got a Mastodon account from that original week everyone claimed they were leaving twitter after the sale - everyone just created profiles and left again on day two.
BS hit 10mil users a month ago, I joined last nov and was number 1.908 something million. Been watching the 'new users first post live feed' nonstop since the day before the US election and its been no joke non-stop new users every second of the day since then with no stopping.
I've noticed lots of old unused accounts getting used again (like some of the aforementioned wrestlers), a lot more big companies and sites are set up or setting up. Bluesky never had the 'what server do you wanna sign up on' deal like mastodon does so that first barrier that kept most people away isn't fucking things up.
Plus just from my own usage it feels a lot easier to find what you want (and have other people find you) since Bluesky has feeds you can save and browse instead of having to search for everything on Mastodon.
Pretty much every interest I have I've also found feeds for, YMMV of course, but the content is 100% there now.
I'm not so worried about Bluesky getting the huge wave of new accounts, but more if those accounts will be actively posting next week or just slink back to the dirty birdsite out of habit. Good to know from yours and other replies that its very active at the moment though!
Thanks for posting this! And also thanks for highlighting my starter pack.
I just wanted to add one helpful tip; a lot of feeds on Bluesky gather posts based on both hashtags and emoji used in them, and the emoji for the main pro wrestling feed is 🤼. If you post about wrestling on Bluesky, it will probably get picked up by the feed if you hashtag it appropriately, but include the emoji if you can just to be sure.
And should something show up in the feed that shouldn't be there (you may on occasion receive adult related content, or non-wrestling related fanart) in the feed - Settings > Moderation, there will be several options for hiding keywords, hashtags, and numerous levels of visual obfuscation settings to help remove them from the feed.
It could happen, but with the influx of people the last few days it may not happen often anymore.
I’m still kinda wrapping my head around the feeds and all the emoji use, but it’s pretty nice over there. I’ve found some of y’all and so many accounts I used to follow on Twitter years ago. The blocking situation is great too.
To clarify (in full, for anyone else as well who may need or want it):
On Bluesky there is (almost) no algorithm. Only real place you'll find one is the Discover feed (you can click "Show me more/less of this" on each item and it generates things to show you based on your interactions). And your Following feed (which is self explanatory).
Every other feed is populated via specific keywords, hashtags, or emoji.
For the main wrestling feed:
Please tag posts with #prowrestling,🤼,#wrestlesky,🤼♀️,🤼♂️, or #LuchaLibre to get them to show up. >Using tags for the following promotions will also show up:
#aew,#wwe,#NJPW,#ROH,#Impact,#GCW,#TJPW,#ECW,#WCW, #AJPW, #DDT, #NOAH, #STARDOM
Just saying the words without the hashtags also seems to work but ymmv. Most have taken to using the 🤼♂️ as the default "put this in the wrestling feed" option since its quick and faster than any of the others.
Similar things are applicable in other feeds, 📺 and 🎥 put your skeet into the tv or movie feed for example, if you say "doctor who" your skeet will end up in the Doctor Who feed regardless of if you say "Doctor Who is a great show" or "I hate my doctor who tried to fuck with my prescriptions", so there can be some hits or misses lol.
As for the blocks, oh yeah 100%. The blocks on BS are nuclear. Block someone and they are gone from your life, no buts, no caveats, just gone. BS already has a bunch of idiots on it like jdfromny, cornette himself, and a bunch of shit stirrers. Tons of people have been passing around blocklists filled with these nutters and the wrestlesky community's agreed upon approach so far is: "block early and block fast", so the nutters end up getting easily segregated into their own little corner where they're cut off from the actual wrestling community as a whole.
Plus I love the sites technical details, I can hit the back button 3-4x between threads and never get that sorry-we-lost-how-far-down-the-page-you-were-so-start-at-the-top-you-stupid-bitch problem so many websites give you which I appreciate.
My experiences here, on Mastodon, and now BlueSky have been so positive with people freely offering tips and advice like this. For a long time I’d kinda thought the internet was just shit.
