The man who voiced America Online’s famous “You’ve got mail” greeting has died at age 74. Elwood Edwards died Tuesday at his home in New Bern, North Carolina.

Somehow, this was not an issue for me in the 1990s.
I wonder if he hated it, the sound of his own voice every time
I've done a lot of professional VO, and if he was anything like me, yes.
Because every time he listens to it, he will analyze every little inflection and think, "I could have done that better." or "they should have used the other take."

I hated the file's done. He sounded like such a goober on all of em, but that one was extra special annoying

I've never even used AOL mail and I still know exactly what the notification sounds like.
I was born in the 2000's and didn't have an email account until 2012, and even I know what it sounds like.
.....am I old? I know it's no longer part of pop culture, but it was one of the first things I can remember where technology became part of pop culture.
Broadband had pretty much had taken over most places by the mid-2000s. That was 20 years ago. There are people who can drink now who were born after 9/11.
What I'm trying to say is, yes, we're old. Dialup to younger folks is like what rotary phones were to us.
I only know about it from Hermitcraft.
