Claudia de la Cruz & Karina Garcia -(Vote Socialist this Tuesday) - New General Thread for the 4th-6th of November 2024
Claudia De la Cruz and Karina Garcia are running for President and Vice-President of the United States on the ticket of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
Claudia de la Cruz was born and raised in the South Bronx, New York to immigrant Dominican parents. As a teenager, she regularly participated in campaigns calling for an end to the U.S. blockade in Cuba and calling out police terror. While completing her degree in forensic psychology at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a City University of New York college, de la Cruz helped create Palenque. Palenque was a group focused on bringing together young people to study the history of struggles and resistance by marginalized groups. During the Iraq War, de la Cruz organized some of these members as well as church members to rally against the war. She also helped found Da Urban Butterflies, a youth leadership development project for women from Washington Heights and the Bronx. Later on, de la Cruz co-founded The People’s Forum in New York City, a place dedicated to making space for working-class people. De la Cruz is also a mother and a pastor for the United Church of Christ, a Christian denomination that has historically been involved in social justice work.
Karina Garcia grew up in East Harlem, also known as El Barrio, in New York, as well as California. She attended Columbia University on a full scholarship and organized fellow students to speak out against the U.S. invasion of Iraq and to advocate for immigrant rights. After completing a degree in economics, Garcia became a high school math teacher in New York City. During that time, she advised a student group on issues like police brutality and school budget cuts. In 2012, she took up an organizing position at the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice. She is also a mother and writer for Breaking the Chains, a feminist and socialist magazine under the PSL.
The Party for Socialism and Liberation is comprised of leaders and activists, workers and students, of all backgrounds. Organized in branches across the country, their mission is to link the everyday struggles of oppressed and exploited people to the fight for a new world.
The Party for Socialism and Liberation believes that the only solution to the deepening crisis of capitalism is the socialist transformation of society. Driven by an insatiable appetite for ever greater profits regardless of social cost, capitalism is on a collision course with the people of the world and the planet itself. Imperialist war; deepening unemployment and poverty; deteriorating health care, housing and education; racism; discrimination and violence based on gender and sexual orientation; environmental destruction—all are inevitable products of the capitalist system itself.
For the great majority of people in the world, including tens of millions of workers in the United States, conditions of life and work are worsening. There is no prospect that this situation can or will be turned around under the existing system.
The idea that the capitalists’ grip on society and their increasingly repressive state can be abolished through any means other than a revolutionary overturn is an illusion. Equally unrealistic are reformist hopes for a “kinder, gentler” capitalism, or solutions based on economic decentralization or small group autonomy. Meeting the needs of the more than 6.5 billion people who inhabit the planet today is impossible without large-scale agriculture and industry and economic planning.
The fundamental problems confronting humanity today flow from the reality that most of the world’s productive wealth—the product of socialized labor and nature—is privately owned and controlled by a tiny minority. This minority decides what will be produced and what will not. Its decisions are based on making profits rather than meeting human needs.
There are really only two choices for humanity today—an increasingly destructive capitalism, or socialism
PLEASE VOTE PSL IF YOU CAN!! PLEASE IM BEGGING PLEASE, ITS THE EASIEST THING SOME OF YOU CAN TO TO SUPPORT THE SOCIALIST CAUSE!!!!! PLEASE IF WE MAKE A DENT, THE LIBERALS WILL LOSE THERE SHIT, IMAGINE HOW GREAT THAT WILL BE GANG.
The lesson they're taking from this is "we can't run women" not "hey we need to listen to our base when they say they want medicare for all, or an end to the genocide in Gaza" because I guess the latter is not allowed
me and my gf voted for Claudia. We like to take the train into the city sometimes and I kept pointing out all the Claudia and Katrina posters on lightpoles saying like, this is who im voting for and here are all are PSL's policies and my gf was really receptive to them.
she wouldnt announce herself as a communist but I'm outspokenly one and she is always like wow I never heard someone say it like that before when I explain things to her.
Last year we went to this xmas tree lighting thing in the city and PSL was doing a pro Gaza protest and she was really receptive with what they were saying and then she started getting mad at all the people being upset by people being annoyed with the protesters. after we saw the tree lighting we went and talked to some PSL members and they were so nice to us and down to talk and answer her questions and now she loves Claudia and holds the same beliefs even if she cant articulate them as well
when we got home we saw on the news "LOCAL PRO TERRORIST GROUP TRIES TO SHUT DOWN TREE LIGHTING" and we laughed about how the news lies to your face
We need more discssion about how the American "parties" aren't really political parties at all, but more like fan clubs for a subset of utterly unaccountable politicians, and how the party structure is not only a top down structure where the actual members, the political and donor class, demand fealty from the fan-club members but are not in any way under the control of the fan club.
Like afaik the parties have very little structure and there just isn't a mechanism for party members to control, whip, recall, or otherwise maintain control over senior party members and electeds.
Like afaik, the rank and file cannot
eject members from the party
force electeds to resign
beat electeds in to compliance with the party
Or anything else at all. It's completely one way - money and volunteer time and noospheric meta-submission flow up, shit rolls down.
There really aren't many ways in which the us political system has any democratic features, but this, where the state itself is in the control of two political cliques, at least one of whom has no accountability to it's membership and arguably has no rank and file membership, is one of the bad ones.
I decided to check if Mark Hamill is doing okay, but he hasn't posted anything in the last 8 hours. You could argue that he's sleeping right now, but I highly doubt that considering how unhinged he is. I suspect he's likely coping in silence. Or maybe he did go to bed after seeing events unfold, and took some Trazodone to ease the pain.
Slept like a baby last night. Marxism isn't a religion, it's a worldview and it's comforting to analyze things properly.
Picked up baulders gate because it was on sale. Now I can see if the hype was all hype or worth it. Have some gripes already but it might just be because I hate gamers.
I am loving the venom and haughtiness with which the libs are deflecting responsibility for their losses towards The Doubters among them, so ferocious in their denial. I see all their wretchedly entitled, fascist, smugnorant posts and I smile, knowing that for every seasoned tankie like you or I going , there are a thousand newly-minted leftists reading it with searing rage as blue maga's historical revisionism takes aim at them. Keep it up you tantruming nazi losers, keep making me more friends.
Remember that acceleration towards collapse is happening regardless of who wins, due to the climate crisis - this is just an indicator of how fast, exactly, it's happening.
One good thing about a republican legislature is that it will probably be easier to buy guns. You should do this.
Yep, it's the face that Harris is a black woman. It had nothing to do with borguer being $12, ambulance being $4000, house being $Fuck you, and tipping your landlord 22%. It has nothing to do with not helping any minority that was a part of your base. It has nothing to do with being unresponsive to any desire of your base. And it sure had nothing to do with saying "I'm talking" while people asked you to stop doing the thing that made Hitler so bad. Nope, it's a country full of hillbillies that's not ready for a black woman.
slept comfy all tucked up like a baby, knowing I have the materialist science of Marxism to clearly show me a reasoned analysis and understanding of why Kamala ate shit
No current struggle session discussion here on the new general megathread, i will ban you from the comm and remove your comment, have a good day/night :meow-coffee:
I really thought the race would be closer. I'm surprised that 15 million voters just didn't show up for Kamala 4 years later. That's like losing half of the voting blocks Pew Research define as outsider and progressive left. Absolutely abysmal campaign by the Democrats, and that's pretty cool that many folks decided not to endorse their bullshit.
my gf is annoyed at me because i didn't vote when i said i'm not voting because it doesn't fucking matter for like literally the entire year
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Not to mess with the lathe, but with the way my boss and other people in my company are becoming increasingly tech bro brain poisoned (and taking 10 minute lunches), I can see a reality where workers use fucking feeding tubes
It sounds really, really absurd, but these people are obsessed with productivity to a terrifying degree. Damn I wish I had a union
Hi everyone! I'm so thrilled at the positive reception for Claudia & Karina this upcoming election day. I'd like to say that if you've voted or plan to vote for Claudia & Karina this election season (or for Stein/Ware or West/Abdullah in participating cooperation agreement states) you can enter your reasons on this map HERE!
Join us this year in putting Socialism on the Map.
trying not to joker laugh in class as the phrase “They sent Ritchie Torres to Dearborn” rattles around my head with increasingly exasperated intonation
the people in my life most upset by trump as such tend to be the ones least directly impacted by his policies. i really do think it's an aesthetic thing for a lot of middle class white libs. more upset by the holes he punches in soothing fantasies about lib democracy than most of the actual abuses his admin carries out. not to minimize the anxieties of comrades in higher risk groups ofc, there is a genuine wider range of domestic political violence under trump. and i realize this is a pretty worn out/cliche point in our circles at this point. but still, just thinking about different people i know's reactions to Orange Man
dropping my partner and I's ballots for PSL today.
first time they've been actually on the ballot as a choice not write-in
some "democracy" we live in lol. usually where i'm at the mid term ballots are mostly all uncontested choice between a person and a write in that doesn't exist
I fucking hate hate hate giant pickup trucks. They're a huge percentage of the vehicles on the road here and they almost never get used for pickup truck things. It's so rare that I see one with anything in the bed that it's a notable event.
They're just mega sized luxury SUVs with oversized engines that are towing around what is essentially a trailer, all the time. Except they kill a bunch of kids because they have flat grilles that create a giant blind spot in front.
Even worse is the payload capacity competition. It's not enough to have a big ass truck, it's gotta be one of the 7.2 liter powerstroke, super duty, lariat, king ranch, xlt, Laredo sport power wagons. It also has to have dual tires and a giant class 5 trailer hitch with 3 balls. If it doesn't have a lift kit and knobby mud tires, well, you just aren't a manly man anymore.
The people that own them are the worst drivers, too. Always tailgating, taking wide turns into the oncoming lane, never fitting it into a parking spot. They gotta rev the engine big at traffic lights, because it's really impressive that you can angle your foot 25 degrees.
Libs in the neighborhood group chat "mourning" the election but suspiciously silent when presented with a book club reading Fanon. Curious.
Also, I see you, one "organizer" in my tiny town. "As a descendant of displaced peoples", "my child's parent is trans", "calling for the overthrow of the Hitlerite state is a privilege people with melanin don't have". My gay ass and my trans boywife didn't vote for fucking Kkkopmala, what's your fucking excuse?
I know Bernie showed his ass the past four years, but I hate that I miss the hope he brought me. I've spent the past 10 years being right and no one fucking listens. His presidency would have had mixed success, but holy fuck he would have tried harder. Especially 2016 Bernie.
Should have been as obnoxious as the libs the past 6 months and say that anyone who didn't want to vote for these two "was racist and misogynistic because they just didn't want two WOC as President and VP", lol
That's how to run a campaign, not promises, just shaming and bullying, probs. We'll see on Tuesday
Crushposting update: didn't outright tell my crush that I like her tonight, but I asked her to be my date to a prom-themed party we're planning and she said yes. So I'll do a whole promposal and we will see what happens from there!
telling libs i'm not voting because i don't have a civic duty because i'm a second class citizen in this country because i'm not a business owner, a landlord, or a car
So do you guys think Kamala is in Klobuchar berserker mode right now, hurling interns through drywall? Or do you think she's in a bespoke pharmaceutical pocket dimension at the moment? I'm about 70% sure it's pocket dimension
I've said it a few times already, but I cannot stress how easy it is to convert libs right now. It is so easy to push agitprop right now over on Lemmy.ml, might as well be free pickings.
Edit: .world is still generally too hot to really penetrate, that's where the "true believers" are that are still in denial. Lemmy.ml is easy mode, Lemmy.world seems easier than normal but has far more left-blaming than left-sympathy.
I don't want to see non-stop coverage of these grotesque characters and what they're up to for the next four years
I'm just going to peace out of news and current events, and if any of my RL acquaintances try to inform me of whatever's going on, I'll knee em in the balls
If anyone's looking for me, I'll be squatting over at c/games. Wasn't there a way to curate your comms
People on reddit and twitter seem way too surprised by a coinflip going tails instead of heads. Also, feel like some are reading way too into the results. It was probably inflation generally, and like gas prices specifically that drove swings from 2020.
I was on r/neoliberal to see what their response to Kamala losing was and, holy shit, those liberals are scratched.
They're talking about gutting unions because union voters didn't turn out for Kamala, basically celebrating the destruction of Gaza, talking about dropping support for trans rights to "broaden their appeal" (to the point that one of the mods had to make a pinned post about transphobia) and I've seen several super racist comments about latino and black folks.
I think they're taking this so hard because the Democratic party under Biden/Harris was the party they wanted. Two points I see repeated over and over are "Biden had a perfect presidency" and "Kamala ran a perfect campaign" . And they just saw the "perfect campaign" lose the fucking popular vote to President Hamburglar
LMAO people around me in their liberal echochamber. “But Biden did do stuff. The economy is great and everyone who thinks otherwise are delusional. Harris promised good things. How could she lose? It must have been misogyny.” People believe this shit. It always surprises me.
The thing I find really interesting in Florida is that Marijuana legalization got 54% of the vote, while abortion legalization got 57%. Im just surprised abortion has that much support compared to weed here, kind of happy about it
I just got a gym routine going for the last couple months and I think now is a good time to get really focused on it so I can be an antifa supersoldier at some point
It's nice to be checked out enough about this shithole country and fully resigned to the reality of the worst case scenarios that it no longer manifests in an urge to get drunk
I'm drinking way more water than I used to and pissing frequently which is kinda annoying but I feel a lot healthier
Keeping up a skincare routine, going for walks, doing better
Gonna go to bed before midnight instead of doomscrolling
If I remember correctly, the most ghoulish shit came in the first year of the first Trump presidency, and a lot of his initial advisors left. I do kinda wonder if this will be the pattern again. No way the Elon and Trump alliance lasts.
For the record, I spent weeks feeling like Trump was going to win. Then, yesterday, I suddenly started feeling like it was going to be Kamala. I thought that the bourgeoisie would want someone more stable. But (in retrospect) capitalism is of course fundamentally unstable, so we're getting instability regardless of who wins. Even if Kamala had made it, things would have continued to fall apart. The difference now is, I think, that some liberals at least will go back to pretending to care about things. Others will cheer on the various genocides the USA is committing everywhere. Some will radicalize permanently and join us. With Trump, we might get American Civil War 2. With Kamala, we would have gotten (more) WW3. But who knows. Trump basically said that he would surrender Ukraine to Russia, but the dude is a fucking liar and a lapdog of the imperialists so yeah, no telling what will happen there.
Trump's first victory devastated lib me. I radicalized within about eighteen months of that. I also have to wonder now if my lib friends and family members, whom I either don't talk with at all or barely talk to, will become friendlier now. I haven't been able to talk with my lib parents specifically for political reasons. There's a chance that we'll be able to mend our relationship, but if they're just going to veer back into liberalism when the Democrats run Cloned Hitler for president in 2028, what's the point?
Thanks to RCV, this year I voted PSL, then Cornel, then the Greens, then nothing. I also wrote in Nasrallah and Sinwar for the federal-level elections. The lady who helped me scan my ballot was the mother of someone I went to high school with. I was worried she would see what I had written.
The amount of blaming “Hispanic” and black men I keep hearing from my liberal relatives (Guatemalan diaspora btw) is disgusting. They really can’t point to anything but racist accusations when things don’t go their way.
That, and the amount of blaming Russia, North Korea, and China for this is astounding.
Libs think they’re incredibly intelligent while saying drivel that isn’t too different from that guy babbling on a street corner.
Seeing people dooming on my socials and like... Cool. Not like there was anything more important to doom about before a soulless cop lost the presidential election.
how do you have a mental breakdown if you dont have friends who you are close enough to to bother them with it and you dont feel like bothering your parents

We voted last week (PSL), able to do early voting for the first time this year. First time voting for 3rd party for both of us. So I have nothing to do on the 5th. I have the day off (medical appointment) so I can just fuck off for most of the day instead of being stuck at work.
So who certifies the election if the current VP is also the winner? Does the VP confirm their own victory?
Was gonna vote for obama but it was time for all the libs to get off work and vote and the only voting site had a tiny ass parking lot and i dont care enough to go through that
I disabled a copilot feature in databricks because it was SO bad. Normally if your code has an obvious typo it'll just go "this function or variable name is wrong" and you'll fix it. Copilot would suggest changes, usually just fixing your typo, surprisingly often getting it wrong. What's annoying is that you have to accept or reject the change, it takes it longer than it takes me to notice it and start fixing it, so often I will fix the typo, it'll finish thinking, it'll revert my fix and suggest its own. I can't believe that someone though a slow, fancy spellcheck that stops your workflow so you can accept or reject a change was a good idea.
For Agitprop purposes, I’m asking comrades to help aggregate any and all effortpost responses, critiques, or general thoughts that you have seen or written pertaining to yesterday’s U.S. election that you think have standalone value for discussion either online or IRL.
I made a post for that purpose here, and ideally it can be used not only for general discussion, but as a reference for well thought out responses in discussions about the election to save all of us some brainpower.
No shitposts please, as we’d like to highlight some comrades’ actual effort in constructing responses or analysis, but humor is 100% welcome to help make your point!
For anyone wanting to Combat Liberalism libs on Lemmy.ml are extremely easy to walk to theory now while they are licking their wounds. I encourage anyone who wants to to get in on this while it is this easy.
If you ever want an example of how "objective" reporting is a scam, check this out
Trump does suck. There are no lies on the cover. But it very obviously has a narrative and a bias. Yet people will look at it and go "wow, how objective, just presenting reality" because it already conforms with their ideology. 5k people looked at this and thought "yeah, that's just objective reporting." There is nothing objective about it. It is impossible to be objective, any depiction of reality requires that the reporter takes a stance from which to view it. Yet this does not even attempt to approach objectivity, there is a very obvious narrative.
On top of all that, there is also the less clear narrative that "felon" = bad. Do they use the word bad? No. But it is still clearly signalled, I hopefully do not have to waste words how context functions.
I just realized the veiled assumption that there would be “political violence” after the election was assuming that Trump would lose. It’s amazing how many of these guys genuinely didn’t consider that Harris might lose and they still can’t picture reasonable explanations.
Everywhere I go, it’s election shit. i walk to my living my fucking father is blaring Trump’s speech in the highest possible volume, watching intently.
Go to reddit and it’s liberals whining. Go to Heckbear it’s liberals whining about liberals. Make it stop
Millions upon millions are migrating across nations; across
genders, too, if we want to admit it. The largest population
transfers in human history, surpassing even the Atlantic slave trade.
How can it be the same again? Look at the Brooklyn Crown Heights
"race riot," where a hasidic Jewish fascist from Israel runs a red light
following their chiefs police bodyguard & kills an Afrikan child
from Guyana. In retaliation, some 15 year-old Afrikan child from
Trinidad allegedly stabs another hasidic man from Australia. Then
a few hundred Afrikan youth, many of whom are from Jamaica,
stone & attack police, as well as looting stores owned by Arabs,
Taiwanese, Koreans and other nationalities. Black children, who
have no leaders and are out of history, follow white people on the
street chanting "Hitler! Hitler!". Nothing is the same anymore.
Like the L.A. riots, which was a New Afrikan thing, only the
majority of the looters arrested turned out to be Latinos.

24 years on and it could be describing the current year perfectly
My amazing Mokey intuition called it. Were fucked for sure.
Dems are to blame. No primary? Put up a senile candidate had him run the office for 3 whole years? Forced on us a fake soulless corporate candidate with no personality? Also a POC Women that hog Americans will never elect and if they ran a primary they would have seen that and her unpopularity. Not to mention all the other obvious stuff
The funniest thing next would be the economy crashing hard. How does Donald Trump handle what I'm anticipating to be the worst recession ever.
I wonder how much of communist history is just sitting in a cramped room with five other communists talking about Stalin. Because that's what I was doing today.
I actually just genuinely do not care about anyone but the right, who I only pay attention to because I hate. Not a crumb of actual love for anyone anywhere involved in my political and philosophical motivations
well I guess I've won my bet (I've bet a box of chocolates with an old teacher from high school on a Trump victory in 2020 and lost, and again this year) which is about the only way in which I was invested in the elections as a non-Burgerperson
it's amazing how little i actually enjoy junk food, alcohol is the superior vice in every single way (except damaging your body but i dont want to hear that shit right this moment, tyvm)
Just for the record I am never more than a slight or two away from saying that the US deserves to be nuked to ash along with everyone in it (even me and you). When in living memory has anyone worth going that far out of one's way to save come out of this place?
Good intentions don't always mean my viewpoint is wanted or necessary, and others who relate more can speak up just fine. I know this is common sense, but I've been real bad about this lately and think I've annoyed or frustrated others.
Course, I could be misreading it, but it's better to shut the fuck up sometimes. Could be internal chauvanism, could be genuine good intentions, don't trust myself for now. Need to read and listen more, and speak less.
Seven of the 10 states that had an abortion ballot initiative passed one.
Arizona - Increased ban from 15 weeks to 24 weeks.
Colorado - Public state workers get abortion covered in their health insurance (it was already legal) in a state constitutional amendment.
Maryland - Constitutional amendment to shield health providers and doctors from charges for providing abortion services.
Missouri - Passed Amendment 3 to the Missouri constitution, really great win. This is defined in the text as the right to make and carry out decisions about all matters relating to reproductive healthcare including abortion, prenatal care, miscarriage care and more. Starting December 6th, Missourians can start suing the government to overturn now-unconstitutional abortion bans! (Side note, this may cover trans healthcare, but it will need to be tested in court to find out. Not explicit in the text).
Montana - In an amendment to the state Constitution, passed a quite comprehensive defense against the most common anti-abortion attacks.
Nevada - This one is kinda confusing. The first in a series of two ballot initiatives have passed to protect abortion until viability (24 weeks) has passed. However, to add it to the constitution, another initiative has to pass in 2026. It is currently legal abort up to 24 weeks by state law.
New York - Strengthened protections for trans medical care and abortion in the state constitution.
Florida failed to pass with 57% (needed 60%)
South Dakota - failed to pass with under 40% approval
Nebraska - Adds the 12 week ban on abortion to the state constitution.
I took a break from my org for the past year. Now I'm back, and it seems a lot of the most active members have left and the org is facing a reckoning for its future.
I might have to do something I really don't want to do and step up and become important. But I am very scared
some 23 year old at a Halloween party told me i was "too old for situationships" when my dating life came up in casual conversation, and frankly.....i........listen here..........
it was the same night a woman called me fabulous for my dance moves, though. so you win some, you lose some.
trying to quit solo drinking again, at least for a bit. lets see if i eat shit again.
one good thing for it is reading though. form of media consumption that drinking makes difficult. nearing the finish line of 2666 in fact! started in march 2023 lolololololol
With like 92% reporting in Michigan Trump beat Kamala by about 90k votes.
Cornel West and Jill Stein combined were about 50k votes. I thought there would be more towards 100k from the uncommitted primary.
I want to know WTF happened in Dearborn. Maybe some post election interviews. This time they can't blame 3rd parties for their loss. Kamala lost to Trump worse than Hillary.
Germany’s communist party supported the NSDAP for that reason. Thinking it’d bring the whole system down quicker, finally allowing their long awaited revolution
I hope this election doesn't give us more memes of screaming/crying teenagers. It was always so dumb, like oh a young person showed emotion? wow how soy how cringe. Who gives a fuck
Has just been overhauled and rebuilt alongside our entire recruitment process. The most frequent complaint by far I've heard about on Hexbear is applying and then never hearing back. The party, nationwide, is aware of this problem and has created new internal systems to ensure that doesn't happen anymore. It was a result of the old systems being sufficient for a smaller party, but the amount of interest in the party is much higher now than it ever was. Now, we should be far better able to the amount of incoming membership applications and move people into the formal candidacy or at-large process faster and more reliably.
Fuck it just asked my work crush/friend out for dinner tomorrow, maybe I'll reveal my feelings. That'll distract me from the election no matter the outcome of the reveal
Youtube has been flooded with political ads this month (and before you say it, I watch youtube on my TV sometimes so I can't skip with adblocker).
I think the funniest one is where they get a bunch of pudgy thumb cops to talk about how weed KILLS CHILDREN, so you should against it. Because if anyone is going to be honest to you about weed, it's cops.
Also got my next draft set up. This one is crazy long. To even fit it onto 2 papers I had to combine blocks of 20 turns that all turn in one direction into 5 lanes of 4 turns
Its based off of this belt Amleth is wearing in the Northman when he's disguised as a Rus slave. This was the best screenshot I could get of the belt and though there are several articles on the historical costuming they did for production there were no tablet weaves to look at closely or patterns. So I had to eye it from a few pixels lmao.
Heres what the pattern looks like on the draft. I think I got it, this should look close to the final belt, gonna have to make it super long to get it to wrap around a persons waist twice with some long tail ends like Amleth has in the screenshot.
you know, I have to wonder, as this opsessive constant droning greed driven inflation on goods and flatlining of wages year on year increases, what the fuck are the AAA gaming studios gonna do? CoD 6 is seventy great british pound stering, that's more than my wife and I spend on food for 2 adults in a week! that's just a price I could never justify on a single game especially as the monotonous multiplayer is the core of that experience; I get a shooter or I feed myself for an entire week is not a tough choice. then you consider these games are worse value for money than ever with shallow content offerings. like, what is the plan here for them? ofc as with all capitalists rn it is short termist suck as much blood from the ecosystem until it dies, but as of right now we're profitable so who cares?
at some point, they're going to be forced to realise there is a level of price elasticity of demand that has diminishing returns
Listening to the Chapo election eve live episode with Episode One. It's crazy how unfunny the Chapo guys are in comparison, kind of similar to their DNC ep with Trueanon they're just not on the same level
I'm actually really proud of myself today. I went into work yesterday and asked all the bartenders to refuse to serve me alcohol. It was really hard, but in my logical mind, I never want to drink again and want to make it as hard as possible to ever drink again. I have an appointment to get on Naltrexone next week, everything is slowly coming together for me and I'm really happy about it.
My life has gotten so much better since I left my ex's house. I'm not in constant fear of having to mask around her, and it makes such a big difference. The other night, I realized just how badly I was stuck in my old habits because of her abuse and I'm so glad to be finally working past it. I have so much to offer the world outside of my PTSD and I'm finally in the spot to realize that. Really happy this week
critical support to dushanbe city employees taking 1 million dollars from the asian development bank and proceeding to not meet a solitary target set by the investors
improved knowledge and skills in corporate governance, utility management, and public–private partnership (2022 baseline: 0)
yeah hows about i go back to tightening water pipes instead of listening to you blowhards about PPP
Revived my dormant Lemmy.ml account to drop gentle agitprop to hopefully lead disillusioned dems to theory, hard debate-broing wasn't working and was a waste of time, think this approach will work better. Not devoting much energy to it, I went too far and burned myself out last time.
Edit: wtf this shit is easy as hell now, libs are lining up for theory, why the hell did I waste so much time before lol
I can’t help but feel a little vindicated after years of warning that Republicans are a political cockroach and being told that they were actually going to become obsolete after the “inevitable” Trump loss.
I started to get doubtful and thought Kamala had it by this week and I should have just shut up and waited.
it's kinda cool that i've grown a ton since i left my (not technically) marriage <1.5 years ago. i do still sometimes feel guilty but it was completely the right decision.
lib copium is adding YEARS to my lifespan right now. mfs on reddit talking about "im grieving" bc they didnt let a woman be in charge of genociding palestinians, fucking hilarious
The Democratic turnout dropped so much that I have to wonder if Republicans simply got extremely good at voter suppression. I guess all they had to do was make vote by mail difficult to get the result?
Folks, the bourgeois, they're no good, more and more people are saying it. All these workers— the biggest, we have the biggest workers— very handsome workers come up to me and say, Comrade Trump there is a specter haunting Europe, and you know what, they're right. These bourgeois are very nasty people, very very rude, and very unfair to the workers. They are stealing our surplus value and no one is doing anything about it.
The proletariat comes up to me every day and says, Comrade Trump will you lead the revolution? And I gotta turn to them and say look, the instruments of capitalism will be used to bring about its destruction, believe me. The means of production, Obama never wanted to seize them. Well guess what? I'm seizing them. Landlords? They're done for folks. Everyone told me— they said, Comrade Trump you won't be the vanguard of the revolution and they would laugh, the media laughed the democrats laughed, guess who's laughing now?
Day 147: Have scraped most of the moss off the walls, and eaten it to regain what little strength the strange growth will provide. This pit seems to go on forever, and despite the abundance of gamer crud on the upper levels I had taken to help supplement the few rations I had managed to secure, these deeper levels provide far less in terms of edible material.
It also seems that whenever I do find time to rest between downward treks, some sort of creature has been eating what Ive not secured on my person.
I hear whispers some nights, they tell me that a "Hexagonal bear" is at the bottom. I fear I may have delved too deep into the pit. I cannot turn back now.
My AA group is looking into making a website, and I'm looking into how I can get it added to a certain webring. I'm really excited to be able to help other people :)
Completely owned a lib in person for the first time yesterday and it felt really good. I don’t think he’s changing his views at all but I at least had to stop and make him think before he spewed forth more CIA Propaganda. It was fun.
I don't know what's worse. The possibility that liberals are catastrophizing harder about Trump winning than the genocide because they weren't paying attention, or that they deliberately didn't make any noise as to not hurt the Dems' chances.
Getting robbed and having to tell the robbers that all my money is invested in the market, getting pushed on it and having to reveal I mean funko pops and pokemon cards
Been trying to keep food budget at 20 bucks a week what recipes you guys have
Atm I got chickpea shakshuka, creamy garlic chickpeas, curry of all kinds, canned sardines mustard style and rice, grits, peanuts, jamaican style mackerel and rice.
I dont count seasoning and sardines cost cuz they just magically show up in my pantry somehow. Im trying to find more recipes that are based around onions, canned tomatoes, and peppers too.
Doing the old bait and switch on my coworker by getting him into audio dramas via The Left/Right Game (like 10 episodes), waiting until he said he likes the format, then telling about the Magnus Archives (200 episodes), in hopes of getting him to listen to the spin off, the Magnus Protocol, which is currently on a break before the next season and will have over 100 episodes
The dems really arouse that "I don't know if you're fucking with me" anxiety response in me. There are people whose full time job is to report on them, to strategize with them, and to help them organize events. So they really spend millions of dollars on projects that are DOA on purpose? If you weren't joking, why wouldn't you look at any poll and do anything popular? Why am I capable of putting together a better strategy because I looked at memes? You stand to gain a bunch of money and power if you win. Therefore you must be joking. But if you're joking, then these people and their livelihoods are a farce? You organize a make up crew, outfits, strategies, debates, voice coaching, audience coaching, etc. for shits and giggles? What the fuck are you talking about????
Monkeys will never write Shakespeare. One representative of the monkey union is quoted as saying that the monkeys are currently working on original art, rather than derivative works. "If humans want to waste their meager lives recreating works that already exist they're free to do so"
The monkey union's contract is due to expire in march of 2025. Current priorities are stated as raises to match the cost of living, restricting AI use only to tasks deemed as "human work", and a second 15 minute banana break in the workday.
my family's kind of always been ahead of the curve on not hewing and crying over the dresden bombing bcs my grandad was an RAF pilot who supposedly took part in it and he took a very clear "the kraut's deserved it" line on the matter
my normiest close friend is down in the dumps about the election, not sure whether to engage rn and if so, how. chances of them becoming one of us or at all active politically are minimal from where I’m sitting so might just let it be.
I think what is causing me to be depressed is that I just don't have the same hope as I did before. Chuds have been preparing for victory so they'll actually get things done, and they have no opposition at the moment it feels like.
Do not worry I have visited the geniuses of specifically neoliberal, and bring you their wisdom on what the election means.
"Dem state and local level governance has been bad. SF, Chicago, etc haven’t been good at delivering for their residents or spending efficiently, and voters nationwide punished Dems for their regional failures.
Dems have spent/prioritized groups without a worthwhile payoff. There’s been hundreds of billions spent bailing out union pensions, primarily benefiting old white retired former union workers- often ones with rich pensions. These voters have taken Dem money and shifted to Trump.
Dem policy for decades seemed to be built around “let’s do ____ good thing in a way that creates lots of jobs”. This isn’t a fit for 2024- and left behind a cancer of inefficiencies. Dems need to reinvent to “let’s do ____ good thing in an efficient low cost way- so we can get the most bang for our buck”. This is in conflict with unions/local non for profits- but it’s a big reason why it’s so much more expensive to live in Dem states.
It hurts me deeply- but the Biden plan to lift up the bottom quadrant of wages through full employment failed. It led to inflation- which is politically toxic. Next time in a crisis - the horrible choice has to be mass unemployment and limited stimulus.
Dems screwed up by having so much of the infrastructure projects get bogged down in years of environmental review and paperwork. Now- Republicans will get credit for the work.
Dems failed to limit the flow of asylum seekers- and it was an unpopular disaster. This was made worse by Dem states and cities not having the capability to handle migrant influx without grifting/super inefficient spending.
Biden’s late exit put Kamala in a tough position.
Millennial generation seemed to have the 2007 crash as their formative political moment- and blames Republicans for it. Gen Z is different, and seems much more open to Republicans.
Abortion referendums ran ahead of Dems pretty universally. Dems didn’t seem to be able to tie Trump or other Republicans candidates to abortion policy.
Some of the story is just a global anti-incumbent wave…. But Trump was the opponent. It goes beyond that.
The old media is dead. Trump and Musk figured out how to connect with voters through new media. Kamala didn’t.
This might be me being petty/angry- but I think a lot of left-ish influencers had the best years of their life 2016-2020 when “resistance” money was flowing in for podcasts/donations. I think this made them less urgent to oppose Trump- which hurt on the margins."
Definitely smart takes there and not just revealing how the libs have got.
Yo vegans, i don't remember the branding 100% but i think the Beyond beef crumbles are pretty beefy. Like I cooked it today for thai beef and if you told me "this is ground beef for chili" i would have believed you
I want Kamala to do some soul searching after this, wonder how electoralism could’ve failed her, go back to her familial roots, and make her next public appearance dressed in full Fidel military garb spruiking the predictive power of Marxism Leninism.
We could make fun of our enemies while they're asleep, we can be inclusive to the global South by making this all about the x axis, the alliances that would come about would be a really odd mix across the board, people could fervently sing This Band is My Band, Newfoundland would become an isolated enclave that everyone else can hate for being a half hour off. If we're gonna base our hatred off of pretty meaningless stuff we could at least have fun with it
I started the Penguin, and just ended up watching Sopranos instead. The mob is all about hanging out with your pals. The Penguin is barely about hanging out with your pals. Not a real mob show, get it out of here. (I'm sure it's fine)
i know my bosses would like me to do actual work when i'm at my desk but truly i only desire to pal around with my chapo chat pals and occasionally do a speck of creatively oriented word-scrivening
Someone using their phone mount to hold their phone as they scrolled through Instagram while driving
A moving truck? Or some other boxy truck covered in screens advertising an election day sale. I know they were screens and not just painted on because they were glowing
3 lifted pickup trucks driving in a line, the first one had a giant trump statue in the back where he's in a black and white prison suit and sitting on a toilet, the second and third had Harris flags
Playing Veilguard to ride out the immediate election fallout. It's growing on me a little. Now that things have opened up a little bit, I'm enjoying running around the areas doing little puzzles. The combat is definitely fun, I don't know if it's ever going to rise to any great height - the comparison to Mass Effect is definitely apt, although even in those I felt like the companion abilities were more . . . noticeable? As it is I don't really even notice the particle effects. Still, it's challenging enough on hard that I do feel like I have to actually make good decisions in how i take an encounter.
Having spent some more time in the environments, they feel a little better. Some things are still really not working for me, like why the fuck are there ziplines all over? I do think the architecture in the big city is neat - there's kind of an art deco thing going on. But then I'm in this really nice-looking tavern with clean and polished stonework outside and giant decorative vases where everyone looks well-dressed and the bartender is talking about how sometimes they have mystery stew and the coffee might even be fresh like it's supposed to be run-down.
The dialogue writing is still really not to my taste in tone and style, (frankly I think the technical skill on display isn't very great either) but there's occasionally something left vague enough to be interesting in the worldbuilding. The romantic dialogues have been largely atrocious I am taking nearly every one at this point because they're all these awful, saccharine, adorkable "ha ha jk, unless?" exchanges where these highly-competent adventurers who casually quip about terrible monsters and the end of the world struggle to communicate interest while also being incredibly forward. Maybe it'll get more interesting as the characters develop, but I feel like it's going to be hard to make satisfying when you just pick the heart dialogue option and the characters frictionlessly become more amorous for a moment.
It’s so predictable that the libs are going into this reflexive ultra-defensive sense of self protection mindset rather than trying to learn any lesson whatsoever
What's worse: singing the chorus of Teenage Dirtbag to the tune of Baba O'Riley, or vice versa? Neither really works tbh, but somehow my brain won't stop trying
oh god save me from the den of boomers that is my office. nice people for the most part but unbearably normie/baby-brained politics
UPDATE: i have hinted at my politics ever so gently, said "well the trick i had for not being too worked up was going in with abysmally low expectations. and i wanted trump to lose but ngl i hate both of those motherfuckers and their parties." it's not exactly singing the soviet anthem but it's something lol
It is really cool that DPRK developed nuclear weapons but just keeps them in their back pocket while they attack the occupation government with floating bags of used toiletpaper.
leaning toward taking that new job if/when the offer is formalized, even though it's arguably just a lateral move. the things that make this current one cushy-ish for the field also make it fucking boring, a lot of pencil pusher shit and as i become Less New the quantity of that type of work will only pile up. also i spend a lot of my day in a windowless office which is
I really really really hate the people who are running my place of work into the ground. It makes me wanna cry because I've been so invested in it for so long because I believed in the mission
But next Friday is my last day and I'm able to just...not work. And the closer it gets the scarier it's becoming. I might wanna go get my MSW next year but I have to put in my application by January. Then what? Can I afford it? Do I even want to do social work anymore? Of course I find other shit to worry about when I'm quitting so I don't have to worry about anything lol.
The most annoying apolitical, pseudohumanist, pro-peace, pro-love, pro-hug everyone type of libs I know are posting on instagram about how real political action isn't voting but living right and being nice everyday
I am interested in writing some TRPG scenarios set in the early USSR (1920s and 30s.) What do folks recommend for history books that aren't full of anti-communist propaganda or brainworms?
I can no longer deny my gutteral revulsion for my own countrymen. Over the course of my lifetime I have grown to hate them all, and as time goes on I will only hate them more. The next time some act of mass violence happens at a school or a church or a grocery store or whatever, it's gonna take everything I have to not cheer. Actually, I harbor so little respect for these people that the restraint involved would be more of a concession than they deserve.
I am not alone, but being alone would almost be an improvement the way things are.
A Disco Elysium/Silent Hill game where you play as a liberal inquisitor type, fighting all the big bad enemies that keep the Good Guys party from succeeding, carefully locating haunted sites to pour concrete over, continually being thrown by the party into supernatural lethal meat grinder ordeals until you realize that the monsters are only getting stronger, and you've been living in denial about your actual role as a participant in The Ritual. In the good ending you become a communist, while the bad ending sees you embrace the fate of Technofascist Pyramid Head
This ended up really long, nerd shit, music, recording, raspberry pis, jellyfin, kodi, etc.
I don't like playing music via Jellyfin through the browser when recording cassettes (well, and in general, actually, unfortunately) since sometimes it stutters and there's weird gaps between tracks which can destroy recordings, so I've been copying files locally and using Elisa (it came with KDE) when recording to cassette, but it's buggy, plays the wrong tracks sometimes, and basically I can't use my laptop during recording (fear of stutter) and also a notification going off would be a real problem (I don't think messaging notifications add anything to a recording, sorry). I had an extra Pi 4 lying around, so I decided to experiment with dedicated remote controllable music player distros. (Also a dedicated player means I wouldn't have to swap cables when I like wanted to watch a YT video)
First I tried Volumio, but I hadn't even played a single file before I accumulated some gripes: (To be fair, my dad is a fan, so this is really just me being picky about software)
Long End User License Agreement that you must accept to use
Ublock Origin fucking lights up - apparently this local UI phones home to Facebook and Google Tag Manager, not something I want on my local network, even if I do block it, just not my ethos.
And finally, pushing features behind requiring an account (with multiple tiers, even!!) and a nag in the menu to that effect.
I didn't even let it get through scanning, because I found out there's a plausible alternative in https://moodeaudio.org/ . Looks like a frontend to MPD and a bunch of duct tape to support other stuff - I haven't done anything with MPD so I don't really know how to use it, but...
What I can say is that the UI is passable, maybe better than Jellyfin (and Jellyfin casting from browser to a remote device is pretty finnicky for me since Kodi/JellyCon will just disappear from the list and need a reboot, and it never really felt recording-worthy since Kodi always feels a bit finnicky to me due to various factors). Since I'm recording cassettes, there's a limited amount of space on each side and I'm trying to jam in an entire album, so there's a lot of "is this above 44 minutes?" checking. Luckily I can use a somewhat hidden "Queue Info" button when I'm building and it'll show me the entire duration of the current playing queue, then I can copy it out to a playlist per side, reorder things using the kind of dialog I'd design because I'd be too lazy to implement drag and drop lol. Yeah in my browser it's not smooth or intuitive but I fuck with this, it works, I tolerate it.
I was able to set it up to access my SMB/CIFS (w/e) share with all the music, scanning took a fuckton of time (to be fair it's like 30k tracks and 500+GB, and over wi-fi and I'm above the garage), but there are no gaps or stutters in playback, and it detected my USB DAC just fine, so the audio quality is great. And I can disable the volume slider too (pet peeve is accidentally leaving it lowered and wondering why output is so quiet all of a sudden). So that's pretty cool. I haven't had a buffer underrun yet (feels inevitable since it's grabbing files from a network share over wifi) but I'm sure it'll happen, and it'll ruin a recording lmao. Worst case I'll use a USB stick since it supports local media too (and you can control buffer size in the settings too, so I guess that's an option)
Back when I upgraded both of my LibreELEC installs to use a Pi 5 (this made such a huge difference to performance and responsiveness, even though I'm still using SD cards, and I would recommend JellyCon over the Kodi Jellyfin Plugin with Artic Zephyr Reloaded which has a main menu editor to integrate it more directly into Kodi and prevent db corruption... it's a pain to configure, but it becomes seamless after a while, ask me about how long my 2 fucking nvidia shields lasted if you want to know why I went this route) I was thinking I didn't really have a use for the old ones, just kept one of them and gave the rest to my dad. I finally have a use for it, so that's pretty great.
I was originally planning on doing a headless server and using the CLI to generate playlists but honestly a UI is just better than trying to craft m3u files myself - easy to be like "ok play this directory, terminal" but not easy to be like "select exactly these 8 tracks in this order and put that into a playlist and also tell me how long the total length is and maybe i'll add more tracks etc." it would be a whole thing to try to script this, and I have enough silly scripts already.
edit: apparently Cantata has a pretty usable UI and I can just connect to the mpd server lol, sick, it shows cumulative durations in more places
Hmmm is my depressed ass going to the boardgame club this evening or is my depressed ass going to get two beers and a frozen pizza and sit at home being depressed instead
Learning from my previous mistake and texting my crush the day before our date instead of the day of.
She had pointed it out to me when we went on our first date. As much as I had wanted to I just got into a whole 'let me not bother her too much' mode of thinking.
She's working right now so we haven't had much chance to talk about the date that we tentatively setup for tomorrow. If we don't really iron out the details tonight we can tomorrow since we work together. I figure it might work out a bit better that way since I want to make sure she isn't too tired. Honestly I wouldn't want to be tto tired either lol.
Based on their previous comment that they enjoyed our walk, I copied their suggestion but just with us two. As we were about to leave, I said “I’m going for a walk now, do you want to join?” They said they were tired and had to do piled up chores, which is fair and in character, but also a good generic always available excuse. They gave me a powerful hug which felt like it came a little too unexpectedly to be a formal goodbye hug, but then we did say goodbye, so who knows…
I made a real quick test strap to try out 3/1 twilling and man is that shit confusing. The smaller strap on top was my starting point, just a complete mess, but eventually I got it and started a new strap along the same warp anx it turned out great. Its a bit small, its only just fits around my head so its no belt, but it was good practice. and it was so small with only 10 cards that set up was way easier than normal. Started and finished it over the weekend which is the fastest Ive ever finished a project.
The back is also cool. You can see how the pattern reverses both in color and the direction the individual "blocks" of thread go, so the smooth 45° slopes become checkerboards that flow in the same direction as their front, but the triangles just flip color.
