I disagree that AI is “stealing” for the same reason I don’t think piracy is stealing. It’s true that everything AI produces is inherently derivative. However, intellectual property only exists as a set of market relationships enforced by the state. Even so, I would agree that artists are getting exploited. However, that’s because the market they are forced to engage with is controlled by capital and not because IP is a physical thing that can be stolen.
"Artists are getting exploited under capitalism anyway so let's exploit them even harder and automate their style and process into an easily commodified and easily devalued theftbox."
I hope you don't have any artist friends; I am an artist and already find you intolerable just from three ignorant theftbox-defending posts of yours.
You're arguing in defense of feeding artist output into exploitative treat printers because "they're already getting exploited but it's ONLY capitalism's fault" like you're not one of the people gleefully feeding it.
Take this hand-hiding gaslighter techbro bullshit and fuck off with it. I deny you; and I hope any artist friends you have find out about how alright you are with their bullshit getting hoovered up by soulless techbros.
I’m not arguing for any of that. I understand your frustration though. It’s completely reasonable for artists who rely on selling their work to be pissed at tech companies for profiting of their labor.
It’s just, I don’t think IP law will not save you or anyone else from getting fucked over by capitalists. I advocate for a world where artists are actually supported since we humanity benefits from their creations. As far as minimum demands go that looks taxing the rich and funding the arts through scholarships, fellowships, grants etc.
