One thing you can always do is make a really low effort website, and put content you've written on it. Maybe nobody else will ever find it, but maybe some brave explorer will go on an internet safari and stumbleupon your creation...
Yes, the link is clearly bait, but can you resist?
That sounds like so much work! I mean even just the website design, you'd need to extensively learn front-end best practices, CSS, JavaScript libraries... Clicks link
Or you could just take some ready made package, deactivate things you don't need and accept what you are left with.
Someone suggested Zim on the FOSS thread for an internal personal wiki
Fighter: Sorry dude, that name is too complex, we’re just going to call you “mid-boss”
Mid-Boss: YOU WILL PAY FOR YOUR INSOLEN- Why is my token called Mid-Boss now?
Four to six readers! That's easily twice as engaged as my group.
And nobody bothers 😔
I posted like a six sentence blurb as a clue and one of my players straight out said "yeah i'm not reading that."
Hurts my soul.
So how did you kill off that character?
One of your former players
Damn, could he at least pretend? That'd kill me
I have a 10-page summary of the rise and fall of the Third Civilization, starting from the Soul War ~500 000 years ago, then the Age of the Giant Kings, the Curse of Forgetting, the antique era, the Age of Conquest, the Dark Age, the Empire of the Diamond Vault, the Arcane Age and the Ascendancy Period, and finally the Collapse.
The game takes place in the Fourth Civilization, 10 000 years after the Collapse.
I am interested, please share!
Definitely haven’t written a masterpiece, but I like the stuff I make. I look at it more as an exercise than as something anybody other than me will care about. So I only put in as much detail as I want and fill in as things come up if I didn’t already have an answer.
me who barely paid attention but I'm having a good time
Terry Pratchett comes to mind with the Colour of Magic Discworld book. He describes it as "a bunch of essays" but it all reads like D&D sessions transformed into short stories. You even have ::: spoiler gods playing dice and rolling for the fate of the characters. :::
He gave up playing after a while, unhappy with the game becoming more complicated with further editions though.
Fake: Players don't read lore
my general RPG setting notes/planning doc is 42k words long. i haven't even had time to run anything in it yet lmaoo
I feel that about my systems that sometimes have settings attached
You guys are getting read? One of the reasons I stopped DMing was because I made such nice things - for me at least- and none of them gave a crap about it. I had to "force" them to read it before sessions
And then there's people like Steven Erikson who pump out one of the best book series ever, imho.
Malazan? Was not aware of that book series I'll check it out.
It's a "love it or hate it" series.
Like the other commenter said, most people love it or hate it. It's a very long book series with books that are very large by itself.
Erikson gives you a character POV of that moment in the story. There's no exposure of what is going on and who is who. I love Malazan but I heavily struggled with that hard at first. Some people say you need to wait till book 3 before you can like it. And while by that point some of the rougher edges in the style are smoothed out I think it's perfectly fine to say you don't like it a couple chapters into book one.
Personally I liked it about a quarter into book one since I enjoyed the history being promised, and the very original magic system that I still didn't quite understand but was fascinated by.
My brother set up a huge world for DND too...
we don't play it as often anymore...
I need to go play it with him, imma
screw being onlineIf those people could read, they'd be very upset.
Too relatable lol
