That's disappointing. I love #FireFox and #Mozilla but this is the wrong direction. The org doesn't appear to have a strong strategy, constantly moving from VPN, to fedi, to AI. Supporting federated services is such an obviously good long-term play for their mission, so to end their Mastodon instance is unfortunate.

  • Eh, if they were moving towards a more focused, less ridiculously "ai" model, it would make sense to stop spending resources on something that's not even tangential to their core purposes. But they're wasting those resources chasing "ai" bullshit, and trying to edge into the ad market.

I mean, as long as the browser and thunderbird stay open source, I don't really care overall, but it's still not great.

Seems to me they have had a strategy since Firefox 4:

1: Move as many users to Chrome as possible.
2: Pull all value out of the company.
    3: Let the remains burn.
