It's basically Google's interpretation of Apple's AirDrop. Google's interpretation of Apple's AirDrop, Nearby Share, is now officially out of beta for...
Nearby Share is a very apt name - it basically describes exactly what the entire point of it is. You can use it to quickly (and easily) share stuff between Android phones, regardless of maker.
And starting today, you can use it to share files between Windows PCs and Android devices.
friendly reminder that KDE Connect is a thing, and that it works between multiple platforms and lets you do much more than just copy the files over the network.
works fine with Mullvad for me, I just had to enable "local network sharing" in Mullvad app's settings. using split tunneling to exclude KDE Connect from routing through VPN would most likely work, too.
Product marketing. I’m still waiting on them (at my employer) to come up with a name for a project I’ve been working on that’s over 6 months old and have no doubt it’ll be dumb
Update: product marketing didn’t do their job of researching the competition and just now discovered it already exists.
For me, it’s just another sign of how uncreative Google can be. They couldn’t even think of an original name for their folding phone, just copied Samsung’s naming. To me, it’s a little thing that actually indicative of a deeper problem.
