I have been with you from your creation now to your grave. You were never really the most popular Reddit app, but you were my Reddit app. I will miss you.
BaconReader was my first Reddit app on Android all the way before there was even an official app. I remember one time the developer sent me some BaconReader stickers in the mail.
I feel sad seeing all of these goodbye posts from these developers that have put so much work into these apps only to have Reddit just spit in their face and not even be willing to negotiate any type of agreement
I really hope so. I haven’t heard of any other than sync. I know the Apollo dev is taking a break and doesn’t have any plans of developing an app right now but I do hope that changes. I can say though that the developers that are making apps for Lemmy right now are very impressive.
Just logged into my new Lemmy, after also being in the sweet sweet frying pan of 🥓
To see this as basically the first post on my new news feed does feel good to be honest. I hope the migration goes well for us all!
I tried almost all of the Reddit apps over the years but ended up with BR as I found it was the most polished. Thank you to the devs who put so much effort in, sorry to see it go.
So there was a time where the most common phrase among redditors was "the narwhal bacons at midnight" and during this time redditors were concerned about non-redditors pretending to be redditors to seem cool.
I feel bad for these devs. I’m sure they’ll be fine but some of them have been maintaining their apps for a decade plus. You get attached to your code after that long.
Others used RIF and Apollo, but I was firmly Team BaconReader from the moment I downloaded it a decade ago. I had deleted the application off my phone a few weeks back to help curb the habit, but seeing this now really hammered the nail into the coffin. At least it now has its own send off of sorts with one last update to the Play Store.
On the off chance that they see this, thank you BaconReader devs for 12 years of service!!
In terms of sheer hours of use, buying the ad-free version of the app 10 or 11 years ago now was probably the best value purchase I've ever made. RIP BaconReader, it's been a wonderful journey. :(
7 year Baconreader user with various different accounts. Sad to see it go. Maybe the devs can make a similar app for Lemmy. Currently using Liftoff on Android.
Just deleted my reddit account and uninstalled bacon reader. I used it since beta and was on reddit since digg. The end of an era! AGL it's sad to say goodbye but on the other hand, HELLO FEDIVERSE HOW YALL DOING!! SO GREAT TO BE HERE WITH YOU!!
Ugh seeing this message last time I opened the app made me so sad. Baconreader was the major way I used reddit for the past what, decade maybe? The devs really knocked it out the park, it was so full-featured and just such a wonderful user experience. I've been hoping they would make a baconreader for Lemmy but I don't think that'll happen. I'm using Jerboa and - no offense to the Jerboa devs because I know this is still an early product! - but it's like downgrading from broadband to the Pony Express.
I'll miss reddit but I have lemmy now. I actually think I'll miss baconreader more!
I was having too many problems with Jerboa, so I installed Connect for Lemmy this morning and have been liking it so far. Might want to give it and others a test run to see what you like best.

This is a very important point that people seem to gloss over here. The reddit app is crap, but the current Lemmy apps (and software) is very buggy as well. This is to be expected, but it will turn a lot of people off from switching over.
The big difference is how it is expected to evolve. Lemmy and associated apps will only get better over next months and years. Reddit will continue to get worse and the app more bloated.
@AlataOrange Bacon reader was my first 3rd party apps for Reddit and really what made Reddit great for me in the first place. Thank you and the team for doing work that brought me to Reddit!
I did not make Bacon Reader, nor did I work on its team. I'm just another displaced ex-redditor mourning the lost of what once was, and had started using Bacon Reader when it originally came out 12 yrs ago.
I'm normally very paranoid about any"this is too much value for what they're charging" (read free apps" as I know I'm the product, and I don't like being the product, but bacon reader, however much money they made off of me, was worth every one of the 200 cents and however much$they made from my data.
Fuck Steve Huffman aka spez the jailbait moderator.
I used BaconReader on Android before I used Apollo on iPhone. It was a great app at the time I used it. Yet another app succumbing to corporate greed. Sadge.
Boost was my app of choice. As with others in the community, I launched the rocket (donated money) to say goodbye. It's honestly weird and bittersweet, I really like Lemmy but I'm going to miss Boost for Reddit. Fuck u/spez.
That's great news! I thought that the dev for Boost wasn't going to work on a Lemmy version, seeing this in the app store makes me feel a good deal better.
