I only recently got out of homelessness. Up until then it was a disaster of trying to access services. Most are meant for people who desperately need help but have barriers to access that will prevent those very people from getting a hold of said services. It took me years to get out of that situation and when I did it was because I had a stable address and a phone number. That's it. Hell, even now the services are often wildly inadequate. I have been dumpster diving for food the past few days because the food bank simply can't cater to the massive need that's spiked up.
We need solutions instead of these extra speedbumps.
I appreciate it but I'm a paranoid mess of a person with no hope, self respect or drive anymore. Just waiting to die and I don't want to waste someone elses money on the likes of me.
I have a phone. It's registered as a tablet. It's otherwise fantastic -- maps, messengers, password app and a lemmy app. And no scam callers in the middle of my night.
I'm only responding to provide that counterexample -- I have a phone, but no usable number.
It seems like they also have a "password grid" multi-factor option that you can print. I hate seeing custom authentication schemes (or insecure ones like SMS) instead of standards like OATH-TOTP, but I do applaud having accessibility options.
