Memmy v0.4 - Upcoming Release Today - Swipe to go back on the tab bar, drawer for communities, iOS 14 dropdowns, performance and other bug fixes, and more
Hey all!
This should be available sometime later in the day. Huge thanks for a few new contributors - @joshua-davis-rose and @bohn002 - for putting in a lot of work as well.
Subscriptions now available in a drawer instead of "Traverse". More of an Apollo-esque style
Switch accounts by pressing and holding the profile button. Feed header now allows you to select Local/All/Subscriptions
Continuing to improve image viewer
Saving images and sharing images now uses the cached files to share, so you don't need to re-download them
Alphabetized subscription list
Community about screen now shows moderators
You can swipe back using anywhere in the tab bar (I've been experimenting with full-screen swipe back as well, once I get that ironed out a bit more we will add that too)
UI now uses the iOS 14+ dropdowns for context menus
Cleaned up some issues with longer community names, but there are still more to handle. Keep an eye out.
Subscriber count is now in the community search
All NSFW image issues should be fixed
Lots of performance enhancements around the app
Also lots of bug fixes, especially for a few newly discovered crashes
Please be sure to report any issues to the GitHub if you can. It is much easier to track there than it is here. There's a lot of traffic, so it's hard to keep track of all of it!
Hey dev team! Thank you so much for the updates. Use Memmy on the daily basis.
Now that Lemmy grows, I as a mod really need to get good mod tools on mobile apps. Such as a pushnotification on new entries in modmail. I'm fully aware that you guys are busy enough but is there maybe a update on when this can/will be implemented?
For example, now I need to manual check the mobile version of the website, go to modmail and moderate from there. If there is a is a comment section with 100+ comments, it is a huge hassle to find and delete the comment.
I actually really liked that the app had a dedicated tab for communities (Traverse). I’m sad to see it going away, I never liked swiping for the subreddits in Apollo.
Will the feed selection (All/Local/Subscribed) be saved between app restarts?
I really don’t want gonewild (or other NSFW content) posts from All to be at the top of the feed when I’m launching the app in public. I always have to switch to Subscribed manually right now
Love the new swipe back feature, such a convenient feature to not have to reach across the screen, thanks!
Looks like the new update did slow down the app smoothness though, I’m no longer scrolling the app at full refresh rate and stutters are occurring during scroll and when pulling out community drawer. But, I know everything is a work in progress and it’s really shaping up!
All previous builds since the beginning were buttery smooth, just the most recent one has noticeable stutter while scrolling and swiping to open/close community side bar
I am completely unable to reproduce these issues, which is giving me a lot of headache. Can you link me a post that should have been hidden but was not?
Is this update completely broken for anyone else on iPad?
iPadOS 16.5.1(c)
I can’t scroll more than 5 posts without getting a blank feed and crash, buttons are often unresponsive, and I couldn’t even navigate over to this community.
iPhone with iOS 16.5.1(c) seems totally fine with the update.
Thank you so much for the updates, and thank you for also listening to the users and implementing the suggested changes so quickly! I don’t know if and where this may have been asked, but do you anticipate the need to raise any funding? I know so many people are against the monetization if apps and stuff, but do you have any plans for those who want to contribute?
I imagine that having that space there is probably bad for older iPhones but might actually be good to keep for newer iPhones (the ones without a home button), so the little white bar on the bottom of the screen doesn’t get in the way of the menu.
Can we get the option to always show the instance next to a community name? Especially for subs like “meta” or “main”, knowing the instance makes a huge difference. And right now it takes several taps to find that.
Love what you’ve done with the app! Amazing work - it’s super cool to see how fast this has come almost out of the blue. Out of curiosity - with the changes to the image viewer, do you anticipate to support long pressing to open the options menu, in addition to tapping on the icon at the bottom right?
Great update. Much smoother interface. Is anyone else having problems with oversensiticity to touch on iPad? I’m accidentally opening posts by just hovering over the screen.
I don’t have an iPad to test on but let me borrow one tomorrow and see if I get the same thing. Not sure what would have changed to cause that but I’ll check it out for sure.
