I stand by the belief these old Anonymous accounts are fed accounts from their early experiments manipulating crowds online into crowdsourced activities and those experiments later developed into the OSINT community.
100% 'anonymous' hasn't been a legit thing since the Lulzsec bust
I don't think the crusade against scientology was organic either. Scientology was infiltrating the US government and that brought the feds down on them. Shit like this was a fed op: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCbKv9yiLiQ
I just remembered they tried to go after Mexican cartels, it'd make so much sense for Anonymous to have been an op from the start.
OSINT?
OSINT accounts are how most of the western propaganda disseminates across the internet. It's a patchy network of anonymous war obsessed people that do "open source intelligence" online, IE spreading information and analysing imagery, satellites, mapping wars, etc.
Before the OSINT community it used to exist as an experiment on 4chan, feds would essentially crowdsource 4chan users into detective work, such as finding the location an image depicts based on weather data because some clouds were visible in the photo. All of that shit no longer exists on chan. Why? Because feds stopped doing it there after they spawned the OSINT community on social media.
Anonymous was a crowd manipulation exercise before social media developed into the large scale thing it is today. Now they operate as many different things that are harder to identify.
Here's an example of the old Anon "we are legion" content the feds put out back when they were using Anonymous to target Scientology because the cult was infiltrating the US government and the feds didn't like that. I'm 100% sure this particular video is fed shit. https://youtu.be/JCbKv9yiLiQ Edgy kids lapped this up and joined in the crusade. It brought together people who didn't really realise they were being manipulated. Today your equivalents are like, nafo and shit.
That makes a lot of sense. Going after Scientology is a nice test run because the stakes are lower so there are less consequences if the psyop didn't work. Once Chanology proved to be successful, they could then move on geolocating ISIS training camps. Going from 4chan to Twitter means they can recruit more people because Twitter is more mainstream.
Scientology at the time was probably viewed as a real threat by the state. Back in the 80s they had Operation Snow White which was a large scale infiltration, I suspect they had one in the 2000s which caused this op to be waged against them.
Going from 4chan to Twitter means they can recruit more people because Twitter is more mainstream.
Yes exactly, except it's not just Twitter, it's across multiple platforms. Telegram is actually the primary source imo, it's the fountain from which all the twitter accounts drink, it spreads outwards starting from accounts there and then gets reposted and reposted and reposted by further OSINT accounts and the various accounts and followers they have. Identifying source accounts is a chunk of what I do when big international crisis events happen because they're ideal times to find the fed accounts when information being spread could ONLY come from intelligence sources intentionally spreading it. Those are the kinds of days when the news mega blows up by several thousand comments all at once.
Open Source INTelligence, IE randos on twitter looking at publicly available information and trying to find evidence for US state department propaganda.
I'm suspicious of these accounts too. I've seen several using ai generated images which is completely out of touch.
