@kingtoms@mastodon Mastodon is smaller than platforms like FB & XTw, and there are no algorithms.
To make your feed more interesting, follow some people (it's mostly people here, though there are a few organizational accounts), follow hashtags (you can do that here), and check out the "Live feed" of your instance.
@Karen5Lund@mastodon you don't need a life ruining algorithm to make a site exciting, i know i've built plenty of high traffic sites since I was 10. there should be enough of interesting content to follow, otherwise people won't join and if they do, they won't stay. there are several great things FB did on it's way to becomming a shithole. if mastodon implemented the things that worked for them and didn't implement the shitty stuff, this could be big and really cause some changes in the world
It sounds like you just want standard social media and its standard parasocial relationships. What appeals to you about fediverse that has you trying it in the first place?
Ah, there-in lies the good ole chicken & egg problem. The majority of people won't sign up until bigger people are on the platform, but bigger people won't sign up for the platform until the majority of people are on there.
@kingtoms@mastodon Implementing the things that worked for other platforms early on and hoping that won't lead to the same bad outcomes seems way too optimistic, IMHO.
And a platform doesn't need to be big to cause change; I think Twitter, at its best, had more impact than FB, but it was never nearly as large.
