lemmy.world Lemmy.world Hexbear Statement - Lemmy.world

Yesterday, we received information about the planned federation by Hexbear. The announcement thread can be found here: https://www.hexbear.net/post/280770 [https://www.hexbear.net/post/280770]. After reviewing the thread and the comments, it became evident that allowing Hexbear to federate would vio...

The rhetoric and goal of Hexbar are clear based on their announcement: to “dismantle western propaganda” and "demolish organizations such as NATO” shows that Hexbar has no intention of "respecting the rules of the community instance in which they are posting/commenting.” It’s to push their beliefs and ideology.

  • There’s a difference between liberal left (which is what a majority of rational, secular people belive in), honest far-left, which is about socialist economics, eat the rich, BLM/anti-racism, anti-cop, gender abolition, human rights, actual anti-colonialism etc. and the kind of “far-left” that is “anti-west”, which isn’t really about honestly discussing these issues, but rather about dividing people, being contrarian to established things that work and make sense, and trying to paint everyone who disagrees even a tiny bit as the scum of humanity.

Seriously, it's like they almost understand what they're doing. Just one tiny little step away from realizing that they're nationalists, pure and simple. You'd think they will come out as basic chud tomorrow, but i've seen it, they can spend their whole life just plain lying to themselves. Is it stigma attached to the word itself, or just a plain old westoid political illiteracy?

    • I'm often critical of Sakai's Settlers but seeing these people try to generate a pro-west form of leftism is quickly changing my mind. They're addicted to their own imperialism and can't separate it from their political views.

How's that liberal left working out for ya?

    • I was recently pretty left but mostly supportive of Ukraine/NATO (

) the mind snakes are sorta deep there. I think* we'd have a lot more success avoiding/not engaging on that topic as it activates some serious self defense denialism on good intentioned people, and bad faith actors will purposefully engage on this to make sure everyone else force fields are up.

      • Don’t give in to tone policing because that’s the thin end of the salami slicing wedge. We don’t have to appease them, we can’t appease them, and we don’t gain from appeasing them so don’t appease them.

The reason why they can’t tolerate anti-NATO dissent is because they’re nationalists and imperialists. Maybe you don’t like Russia, there are plenty of reasons not to, but silencing anti-NATO sentiment doesn’t help any leftist cause and the libs won’t be happy until you’re an imperialist just like them so don’t bother engaging in the exercise of “reaching across the aisle to find common cause”, that’s lib shit and it won’t work because they will continue to brow beat you and feign moral outrage until you’re exactly supporting their position.

        • You might be right, I am only sharing my personal experience on it. I did see "tankies" tossed around and respected the dog whistle briefly with aprehension, but after being exposed to the underlying arguments, I found nothing wrong with them and ignored it.

There is an underlying stigma that if you don't love and support Ukraine you must be a huge fan of Putin. It's very tribal and a bit of an exact replica of American politics

      • No, that won't work. I've seen even basic

fencesitters declared ЯUZZIAN BOTS, what can it do for us? They're GOING TO bring it up regardless. I mean yes, we shouldn't count on our position on the war to be a selling point for baby leftists, but we can't really downplay it. They won't let us.

        • Explaining that every weapon we send there is a bad day for someone, mostly civilians, and that any position other than peace ASAP is spending the blood of the workers to enrich some countries bourgeoisie helps appeal to baby leftists, since while we understand pointless bloodshed is bad, a dug-in lib will have to make up some reasons to justify having killed or dishomed millions of Ukrainians and intending to do it to millions more, showing that they don't actually think of foreigners as people.

        • It will depend on the context of the conversation. If you start discussing leftist topics in a thread about Ukraine it will probably come up. My main point is that if you are arguing the very controversial position that maybe Ukraine isn't full of wholesome pupperino marvel superheroes you are putting them on guard and making negative progress. That might feel gross but I think it's an important roadblock that people need to resolve on their own.

Not disagreeing that it doesn't come up in other places, but reiterating that there is a lot of effective propaganda in the wild about the war and it will make babies hostile. If someone is bring it up randomly they are probably troll and not worth the time.

Additionally don't discount lurkers. It's easy to forget that a one on one conversation can have dozens of readers. You won't convince a bot or a troll but even a dummy on the sideline can tell when a facist is being a facist if you're making valid points.
