I care about other people senselessly killing creatures that don't have to die because they like the flavor. Posts just sticking their head in the sand saying "can't everyone get along?" seem kind of childish to me.

I think with this statement you've uncovered the heart of the issue. Your interest in other people's diets is unwelcome and those who do not welcome your interest are simply returning the favour.
If one pokes one's nose in other people's business, one should expect negative responses.
Edit: pretty ironic that you accused me of putting my head in the sand and then downvoted this comment with no response.
I would argue they just put things into perspective.
Came here from all and love steak, but also well aware many of us are disassociated from where much of our food comes from. Cows are intelligent, social, have their own personalities and are delicious seared.
At least when spoken totally seriously. Highly cringe like That Vegan Teacher. Who equates letting an infant taste cooked meat to SA-ing the infant. Literally says, "think about that. Envision that."
Even if it were to convince anyone to yuck on their yum, it's best to do it in (hopefully playful) jest and gently plant the seed of doubt in their thoughts. Not openly attack something they like. That just makes them not like you.
Socializing must be difficult for you, then. It's a very basic description of tact in a specific scenario. "tact" is how you approach something. You can honestly want to tell someone to stop eating meat with a joke relying on grossness, and get different results based on how you go about doing so.
Basic socializing skills. Standup commedians are basically professional social tacticians. The fact I have to explain this, and am getting downvoted for it is pathetic.
Yucking someone's yum is just a phrase about trying to turn someone away from something they enjoy. like if someone was to tell me that knee pits aren't sexy I'd say 'don't yuck my yum'
