The purpose of Unix was to be user friendly. And it is. You haven't seen what it replaced.
Also friendliness doesn't require a Fisher Price interface.

1 1 ReplyUnix was meant to be much friendlier than the mainframe systems that wer prevalent at the time and which wer horrible to use without a lot of training (or even with it). By contrast, Unix commands were simple, self documenting. Anyone could use it.

2 1 ReplyWell, today it's arguably more advanced, interface wise, than the other systems since they keep copying stuff from the X11 front ends.
All the current GUIs are basically the same Once you've seen a couple WIMP interfaces, you've seen them all.
