I hate that that stupid ass line is like a great "gotcha" to them. No, you aren't able to parse things out and look at the realities of the situation, you're just falling for RuSsIaN pRoPaGaNdA. And the irony of it is obviously the fact that they've just soaked up all the propaganda that has been shoveled at them, but it tasted good so they're going with it. Ah, the projection, it burns.

Yep, I'd bet if you actually got them to discuss it a little further, if they were able to keep up some bare minimum of dialog without pulling one of their "gotcha cards" like the one above and smugly walking away, that they'd actually end up admitting it is propaganda (like your friend almost did) but that they don't care because it's still right for... reasons. They won't be dissuaded to what they see as the dark side. It's too much fun being what they naively perceive as the good guy, righteous and brave.
