It’s amazing how everyone’s reaction seems to be making a discourse/struggle session over which commentators were right which were wrong. The debate-brofication of the discourse has been a disaster for the American left’s ability to empathize and act. I want it to be perfectly clear that if your initial reactions to a literal war are “whoaaaa vaush was right and jimmy dore (or whoever) was wrong!!!” And making memes about it, you are genuinely fucked in the head and are a great example about how politics for many people is really just an extension of a narcissistic pre-occupation with themselves rather than something more substantial or unalienating
Time to sink a few Russian oligarch yachts, empty their bank accounts and confiscate their penthouse apartments and estates. Turn the Russian elites against Putin and make him very uncomfortable watching his back.

Reminder that you don't actually have to be worried about the libs being "right" about this while you weren't. 90%+ of libs believed this would happen because they believe that any enemy leader is a cartoon villain who is psychotic, eats babies for breakfast and only cares about their own personal image.
Making an analysis of how you think the situation would unfold based on shit like actual genuine cost-benefit and geopolitical goals and being wrong about that is always more correct than just brainlessly following leader focused propaganda that assumes Putin would do this because one guy in Ukraine called him a homo or something and that made him rage.
I didn't think this was going to happen because I didn't think Putin had any realistic interest in conquering Ukraine. I had assumed it was all posturing for a lower fee on the pipeline and concessions from the west. Considering how quickly they started targeting military targets in the west, I think the "interest" is to show the west what Russia's modern military is capable of, which is even more cynical than I imagined.

russia has total air superiority over ukraine (to the point that many fighters have defected/run away and many air transports have been destroyed), they are advancing along the dneiper to encircle donbas and cut kiev from kharkiv. huge amounts of vehicles heading towards kiev as we speak. azov batallion tucked tails and allegedly went AWOL and there appears to be mass defections of ukrainian troops according to russian media

-In 2014 the US played a large role in a coup that removed Ukraine's democratically elected government.
-In 2013 (pre-coup) Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was planning on integrating markets with the West, and then turned against these changes and ended talks with the EU.
-Right after coup, EU restarts deal with new gov and IMF
-The opposition group that coup'ed the gov were far right and openly Nazi
-Now these Nazis are part of the Ukrainian armed forces and heavily funded by the US
-"In a recent UN vote on “combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism,” the US and Ukraine were the only two countries to vote no."
-The Crimean peninsula was part of Russia until 1954, after the coup they held a vote to see if they wanted to join Russia or the new Ukrainian gov and voted to join Russia with 95% of the vote
Looks like strategic targets like airbases have been knocked out by airstrike or missile, as well as ground forces being mobilized. Saw some paratroopers, too. No idea where the ground forces are headed.
In retrospect, violence of action and removing response capabilities makes sense. I just really fucking hope the intent isn't to roll the whole country.

This is been said 100 million times but it's so weird to watch streamed tv news during war. You have a correspondent in a city under attack and she's talking about bombs, the threat the terrorism and that local officials have no idea what's happening. Soon after that you have an ad. A smiling family is in their kitchen then they are in a hot tub then they in the woods and they making s'mores...
I'm back on this website after a long exile because reddit is very unbearable right now. I'm not justifying the loss of life that the evil capitalist class of Russia will cause in this bullshit war, but surely this war would've happened anyway. Russia has never been accepted by the international finance elites despite literally going down on their knees och sucking off the West during the Yeltsin era, and even Putin did a lot to "integrate" Russia with the West. Putin isn't a crazy irrational idiot, the most rational position for Russia is to take control of their destiny and cut off the head of the NATO octupus that is slowly choking Russia. Solidarity to every Ukrainian and Russian worker that will inevitably get trampled by this dumb war.

Advice to Swedish news, when trying to use clips of Putin speeches to illustrate how bad he is, don't accidentally include objectively truthful statements like "The US forces countries to adapt to its will or seek nuclear arsenals".
Seeing a lot of armchair generals on twitter being like: "once we give a gun to every resident of Kiev, we will outnumber the Russian army and our chances will be good!"
I really hope they don't try that urban warfare would be so horrible for the civilians and your shitty untrained militia will not turn the tide of the war. I do not have high hopes for the Ukrainians resisting this invasion, the geography is just not favorable for defense (flat + surrounded on 3 sides).

War is such a wack idea. It's such a literal grift. Regular people die, wealthy people get richer. Young men's minds are polluted with unadulterated toxic masculine visions of “national pride”. Everyone loses, the Earth is ruined, the horrors of war unleashed on just regular working people. The media tells you to hate group X for reason Y. It's all so routine and predictable, and yet we are all forced to participate (often utterly unwillingly) in this monstrous ordeal.
