MOVED to fanaticus.social
- NOTICE: Community migrating. Join us at !tampabaylightning@fanaticus.social (EDIT: Strawpoll created - please share your thoughts)
Edit:
I must admit that I had no idea that the c/Android to Lemdroid migration decision was such a controversial one until a few minutes ago, and I feel kind of foolish for jumping the gun on this without gathering any feedback from existing community members. That being said, I still do think it's a wise decision to migrate to Fanaticus, but I don't want to be that guy who makes decisions against the community's wishes. So... Strawpoll time!
Should we move the Tampa Bay Lightning community to fanaticus.social? <- Vote here!
In the event that we do move, I don't plan on perpetually squatting this community. Anyone else is free to moderate this one if they wish to do so.
I will be re-opening this community so that you guys may discuss these options in the comments.

Original Post
TL;DR: In order to better cultivate a more focused Tampa Bay Lightning community on Lemmy, I'm moving this community over to fanaticus.social - a lemmy instance dedicated to hosting various sports and team communities.
Don't worry, you don't need to make a new account. You can still join it even if your account is on Lemmy.World β just click this link c/TampaBayLightning at fanaticus.social and subscribe, the same way you did here. Indeed, some of you are already based on instances other than LW β that's the handy thing about the Fediverse.
Why?
Although Lemmy.World is an excellent "all purpose" instance that's capable of hosting any type of community out there, I believe that communities are best suited when they live within instances that specifically cater to their interests. Thus, it makes sense to have a hockey team community live on Fanaticus, being that it is a sports-centric instance.
This will not only help decrease the overall load on the lemmy.world server, but will allow us to benefit from some of the great GDT bots and tools that @headie_sage@fanaticus.social (the admin of Fanaticus) is currently developing.
What happens to this community?
I have
lockedreopened this community to discuss its future. In order to avoid potential fragmentation and duplication of threads, this lemmy.world community will be directing all subscribers to post on the Fanaticus community from now on.
Unfortunately, we can't just pack up all the threads here and take them to fanaticus.social, but they'll live on as an archive.
It'll always be here if we need it, but right now it's only a few weeks old and things haven't been too active, so I don't see much reason to return in the future.
See you over at c/TampaBayLightning at fanaticus.social!
Also, check out c/Hockey@fanaticus.social - it's a general hockey community that I've lovingly set up and decorated for anyone who'd like to contribute :)
(Special thanks to the c/android@lemdro.id moderator team for creating an excellent guide-post for their migration that I shamelessly copied from to make this one, lol)

Looks like Colton is headed to the Avs. I feel pretty good about the trade overall - while it sucks to see him go, it seems that both teams got what they want out of this deal. Thoughts?

We didn't get a Stanley Cup victory boat parade along the Hillsborough River this year, but here's the next best thing. The Tampa Bay Lightning and Sixthman have teamed up to host βBolts On Board.β Setting sail from the Port of Tampa on Friday, January 12, 2024, the four-night, all-inclusive trip

This sounds both fun and absurd to me lol. Can't wait to get trashed and thrown overboard by ThunderBug.

- Welcome to the fediverse, Bolts fans!
I whipped this community up to serve as a hub of sorts for fellow Bolts fans on Lemmy. I don't have any direct plans for it (or a desire to even be admin for that matter), so feel free to discuss whatever you feel like in the meantime.
