“Every night, as I rest my head on the comforting softness of my pillow, a thought recurs: what if this comfort level could be part of my everyday life, not just at night? This question sparked the inspiration for my latest design. It’s an attempt to capture the essence of that soothing experience. The pillow’s surface, smooth and pleasing texture, was my primary inspiration. Amazingly, something so simple can bring such a profound sense of relaxation.
- What are the keys with tactile bumps called?
I use a different layout to type, but I'd like to be able to have my physical layout reflect what I'm actually typing. The problem is that moving the F and J keys to where they should be means the home row would be missing the tactile bumps, and I use those to recenter my hands when I'm not looking. I'd like to add keycaps for different letters that have tactile bumps.
Do those type of keys have a name? I really don't know what to search for; "tactile keys" just returns rubber or textured keycaps (which, maybe the latter is a last resort). I'm open to alternatives.
Edit: Thanks, everyone! I have now learned they're called "homing keys," and they can have raised portions like bars, or a more recessed scoop.

- V3 with Heavy Kailh Switches is a Beast
I bought this Keychron V3 barebones kit with some nice keycaps and Kailh Speed Pro Heavy Plum switches (70g tactile). I did the bandaid mod and the tape mod.
I tried it with linear 40g Keychron switches first but it felt and sounded weird. The full black keyboard is almost ominous and requires heavier actuation for the full experience of it to be consistent. So these tactile 70g Kailhs are perfect. The sound is more dampened because the keystrokes don't bottom out as hard, but it's also more crisp because of the barely-noticeable tactile bump. It feels like I'm writing on stone somehow. It's really a unique typing experience.
I guess the "keyboard enthusiast" trajectory is one of escalation because I've graduated to the barebones kits and I'm dreaming of fully customized boards now.
EDIT: This was supposed to be a photo post but the photo didn't work. ! !
- New Custom should be arriving, what do I need?
Well it's officially Q4 and if WW3 doesn't break out I should receive the TKD Cycle 7 this year.
I need linear switches and some stabs, what are the best recommendations?
Aside from a screwdriver and pullers, I don't have other specialised tools..what else do I need?

- Leopold FC660C - love it as much as the day I got it, but I have some questions
I have a Leopold FC660C which is my primary keyboard at home.
I bought it lightly used several years back. It is bone stock, and I'm every bit as big a Topre fanboy as anyone you have ever met since owning it. (It prompted me to get a 980C and 104 key Realforce also)
I consider the FC660C and 980C my endgame boards, as new purchases stopped in their tracks after that, BUT:
The mini-usb port on the FC660C is a little bit wonky. I don't think the port itself is loose, I think there's a pin within it that's slightly out of whack. I often have to plug and unplug it several times before I can get it to receive power and work, independently of what system I'm plugging it into or what cable I use.
Are there reasonable mods out there (either to do myself or pay a reasonable fee for someone to do) which could accomplish one or the other of these:
- Replace with USB-C
- Add wireless capability
I learned awhile ago that folks often replace the controller boards, but I don't know the full spectrum of likely options, nor whether that is overkill to just get a properly functioning port.
I'm also open to just having the mini-usb port replaced, but I figure if I'm going that route I may as well modernize it a bit.
Any thoughts or opinions?

- Super key (❖)(windows) keycap.
I am looking for replacement for this standard keycap with windows icon. I would like ro get something with linux iron. I prefer backlit. I can buy also whole keycaps set with nice super key. I was searching whole internet and always it was only sticker with linux or out of stock.
- Low profile keyboard compatible with choc switches
I am looking for a low profile keyboard compatible with the choc switches. I plan to put the choc sunset on it. I was looking for something similar to the Corne, just without the ergo-split thing. A standard 65-75% would work.
- Made my new design: Yeti - What would you like me to make after this?
Yeti from my imagination is always cute and funny. He is not scary at all
- A useful way to integrate function keys in to layout on Moonlander or Ergodox?
Has anyone found a good way to include function keys (i.e. F1 - F12) in to their layout on the Moonlander or Ergox EZ?
I have tried adding double tap to the numbers row but find myself accidentally double tapping while typing (e.g. 1223). I tried tap and hold but found that it would often end up detecting a held key (i.e alt+F4 F4 F4).
I am looking through Moonlander layouts in Oryx but am not finding any good ones. It looks like many don't even include the function keys.
Edit: I'm looking for a good way to do Ctrl+Alt+F[num] or Alt+F[num]. Without having to switch layers... if there is even a good way.
- Looking for light keyboards that don't sacrifice on feel
Right now I use a DURGOD Taurus which I love (Cherry brown switches), and I take it back and forth from work every day I work at the office. Unfortunately though it's getting quite heavy for me to carry so often, and I'm a bit worried about its effect on my back.
The laptop bag I use has some pretty good support, so I'm not sure if a better bag would solve the problem.
Are there any travel keyboards that are super light but also have good mechanical switches? As a programmer I need the function keys, the arrows and the keys that are usually above them (Home, Insert etc). I couldn't care less about the numpad.

- Keeb IO Build: Questions and tips?
I was thinking about buying a Keebio Sinc keyboard despite never owning or making a mechanical keyboard. https://keeb.io/collections/sinc
There are some tangible benefits of this keyboard that I really want -- specifically a split mechanical keyboard with QMK support (my current keyboard has a crappy driver situation, I would like to avoid that by using a QMK compliant keyboard) and the price is arguably pretty good for a split keyboard. I haven't found one that suits my needs for a cheaper price -- I don't necessarily need hot swap-able, but I imagine it will eventually help in the case where an individual key stops responding. If anyone knows of another deal that's less hassle or better value, let me know.
Anyway, basically I know very little about building my own mechanical keyboard or just owning a proper mechanical keyboard. But I figured that if I wanted to buy a split keyboard, which are already expensive, I may as well delve into the world of mechanicals at the same time. I know there are a few well-advertised gotcha's around the keebio builds such as needing to buy a set of keycaps if I build myself and appropriately ordering the right number of stabalizers.
However, I have more questions that aren't as easily answered searching so I thought I'd ask people who know a lot more about this than I do.
-
How do I know exactly how many stabalizers I need? Additionally, how do I make sure that I buy the "right" set of keycaps for the keyboard I'm making (do I look up "ANSI keycaps, ISO keycaps" or is there some other trick to make sure I buy the right "set" of keycaps?)
-
If I build my own, what other gotcha's do you think I should know that aren't advertised well on site?
-
I know that Keeb.io offers prebuilt versions, but how do you feel about the cost difference and shipping quality? Obviously it's much easier to ship disassembled than assembled,.
-
Is it a smart idea to build my own before having owned or maintained a mechanical keyboard? Despite the much higher cost, is it worth it to purchase a preassembled keyboard?
-
How do you feel about Kailh Jades vs Durock Shrimps vs Durock Dolphins? Those seem like the 3 most likely switches for me to try and most likely for me to like of the options provided on the site.
-
- Which vintage computers and terminals inspired the various keycap profiles?
I assume IBM was the inspiration behind the OEM profile, and SA certainly looks familiar, but was it from a specific machine, or just meant to be evocative of them? Was XDA from anything in particular?
Even beyond that, I'd just love to hear any trivia about the ties between the history of the industry and the modern hobby.
