Lot's of good responses here.
It's not just money they accumulate, but the capacity for violence. In the past when money wasn't enough to get what they want, they sponsor a coup or a harassment campaign or assassination. If they have a monopoly on (state) violence then they can just give their workers company scrip in place of money to spend at the company stores for essentials. They've done it in the past and this time around it might rhyme with crypto. As long as their police have their needs taken care of and get some extra perks, they will gladly bust skills to break those pesky union upstarts.
Seems I guessed that right from the headline. There's plenty to shit on, like their soldiers being sent to the Ukrainian meat grinder. But when you see "country bans cheap food" or "country requires kim jong haircuts for everyone", don't be gullible.
Eztv is good enough for me anyways
This sub has really been cooking lately
If effort is the only cost, then yes. If political capital in the form of bipartisan goodwill is your concern, they should not have fought Kavanaugh or any appointment where the odds aren't better than a coin toss.
Ngl, you had me on the first half.
Oh boy I got a fun video for you: https://youtu.be/GmJI6qIqURA @26:50
Atlas Shrugged is so bad that if you didn't know anything about the author, it could be read as a decent satire.
Usually there's one degree of separation from a billionaire with the appointments. This time it's just straight up billionaires running the government.
Hot take: the Venn Diagram of people saying fighting is a waste of political capital and those saying people who didn't vote for Harris consented to Trump's agenda is a perfect circle.
People should read the first chapter of "The Ministry for the Future". People will start dieing by the millions due to heat waves, it's going to happen even if we stop burning oil now because of how long the feedback loop takes. Drilling more lengthens this trend into a future where billions die.
Between the lines: Tariffs are going to be used as a tool to transfer wealth from the bottom to the top. But there are some global players who want in on that action, so Trump is going to pick hand pick some winners in exchange for foreign policy.
What are the odds the Qanon Shaman not only gets a pardon, but a medal of honor?
Just because we hear him doesn't mean we're all listening.
One more link: where I discovered the term conviviality was a video from andrewism "we need to be more tech critical": https://youtu.be/lV6JzroVr48
"Understanding Power", p260 he talks of luddites specifically. And p258 "Automation" section is where he gets into "automated numerical control" and how it reflects a certain power structure.
Something people need to understand is that technology is not a linear progression. We decide not only how it is used and for what purpose, but the actual thing itself. The technology itself can be thought in terms of conviviality, ie how adaptive it is to human intent. Chomsky points to CNC machines; how when they were developed they were done so with top down control in mind. Contrast that with how 3D printers have a trend of supporting more autonomy on the shop floor (print from computer over wifi or plug in a USB stick). While CNC machines of old have practically no thought for such things beyond safety and accuracy.
There are going to be two kinds of people: those who see value in AI and will pay market rate, and those who see AI for what it is and can create new value outside of what AI can produce. And you seem to think artists are inclined to do the first over the latter? Only the ones to be forgotten by history think that way.
This fucker is getting ready to retire so he is getting ready to blame ethics standards for his leaving. This is to justify even more flagrant violations by his to be named successor.
