  • What are we supposed to do about it, buy Bitcoin or something?

Doge is cutting like 150b tops, youre not even erasing a single year of additional spending. No politician will ever cut spending, "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largesse out of the public treasury."

  • I agree with most people here, lets fix climate change instead of doing controlled burns and forest management. Wildfires arent a natural part of the ecosystem, and before big oil began supplying my SUV and my flights to Tofino with energy they never occurred.

  • Regardless if its AI or not youth unemployment in Toronto is nearing 20%, which is a great injustice that mass immigration did help create.

How this happened was Covid stimulus, the Bank of Canada printed lots of new currency to buy federal bonds during Covid, which causes a labor shortage as per the phillips curve. We then did mass immigration as the Bank of Canada was jacking up interest rates to cool the job market, and miraculously the labor shortage vanishes and we are left with the excess of people who are now looking for work. This was also why US wages rose much faster than Canada, as we had capital shallowing.

This AI may be bad but the problem is real, and it seems as though this AI slop will be used to refute the fact that people are really suffering due to government manipulation of the economy, with a clear goal to feed corporations cheap labor which the UN then called modern slavery.

  • Well I'd say the issue with housing in Canada is zoning obviously, land values in our largest cities are far too high that government inserting themselves into the bureaucracy is silly. We need to break the sprawled zoning and force the municipals to lower the development taxes that have been increased thousands of percent and are being passed on to new home buyers. Greenbelt is another issue, as we have a lack of space to build and yet we want to continue to massively grow the population.

Mass transit would be great too if we actually built it, we are still the only country in the G7 without high speed rail. All we ever get is lip service on climate change, things like EV subsidies for the rich to consume more by replacing their 3 year old Lexus with a sports car, likely in order to artificially grow GDP so that the liberals have a better chance at winning elections.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying I just dont ever see those results, I see massive waste and plunder.

  • The problem with climate is we would need to stop doing mass immigration from low emission countries which raises the cost of borrowing. We would need to cut off imports from emerging markets, so the cost of goods would rise and we would have higher interest rates, crashing our housing bubble.

We are entrenched with climate change because our borrowing cost is tied to cheap goods produced using coal by wage slaves in areas with the lowest worker rights.

  • Well spending money to grow requires the money be spent on infrastructure, if you're simply giving away money using borrowing then its obviously not going to have a yield greater than the input, and you'll be paying interest in perpetuity.
