  • This is yet another reason why critical IT shit should be open source whenever possible. Are you paying your staff to fix shit or deal with telemarketers pretending they know what the fuck they are talking about? Just toss that into the pile.

Where I used to work, incoming sales calls from these guys were transferred to an endless phone tree. “Oh, you want to talk to (I forget what department name we gave the black hole). Here I’ll get you over to them.” They would be sent in an endless phone tree that never went to a human. It just never ended. We were a ringcentral shop and my boss was a master with the phone traps.

On a side note: did you know rust desk is free and does all you actually need it to do?

  • I think it’s more that consumers didn’t know what the fuck it was.

  • I have a jellyfin server. I haven’t bothered setting up the *arrs because there’s not much worth watching anymore and the few things I want I can get manually. It’s not even worth automating the piracy anymore.

  • I have my grandmothers iMac G4. Just an interesting looking from the days when Apple made interesting looking things. It still works but it’s really used for anything.

  • I have to wonder if there is a major commercial interest in that though.

  • Oh fuck that culty nonsense!

  • I started reading the article but didn’t finish. This guy is a fool. He’s bitching about vendor lock in? The data isn’t supposed to be portable. That’s the point.

  • Honestly, I don’t game much but there a few upcoming games I’m really excited about and only one of them will actually cost money. I’m waiting for Megaman X Corrupted and Billie Bust Up. Both indie, both better. There isn’t really anything worth getting from big companies anymore.

  • Which brings us to today’s sponsor, NordVPN. If you use nordVPN, nothing bad can happen to you ever again!

  • I have a eufy doorbell cam I’ll be replacing after I move because the app is just flooded with ads. Aquara has one that supposedly ties into home assistant and frigate nicely.

  • I will never buy Native because their ads are fucking everywhere. I will watch them back to back on YouTube when I’m on the living room AppleTV because unlike my laptop I can’t block it there. And I resent them for it.

  • I have a family plan with T-Mobile for years with friends and a family member on it. T-Mobile had a price lock guarantee on it. They raised the prices anyway. When I called about it they told me they made that promise 11 years ago so it doesn’t count. I told the lady on the phone “I pay you X dollars a month so me and my friends can look at porn and cat videos on skinner boxes.” I’m still looking for somewhere to jump ship to. Mint mobile looks like an option but they are owned by T-Mobile so I dunno if that’s really an option.

  • I’m not. Everyone I want to let in has their own WireGuard credentials, each one limited what they can reach once connected.

  • I was looking a for more VRAM than 8 gigs. The 9060XT cards are compelling but the encoders are shit on AMD, especially compared to Intel. Intel may get SR-IOV in battlemage eventually whereas AMD never will get it in the consumer cards. The prices are better with Intel.

I want a server that can run jellyfin, frigate, and sunshine and the B580 seems like a better fit l for that.

  • Aside from snaps I don’t see a problem with Ubuntu either.

  • I never use their remote access methods at all. WireGuard works fine.

  • I have literally never had a problem with jellyfin. It works great on everything. It slices, dices, cures all that ails you.

  • Yes-ish. Rockchip can choose wether it want to support its chips in Linux at all. Many of these companies just make it work and Android and anything else is just a niche market giving them a little bonus.

  • Isn’t that like how alpinelinux’s community repository works too?
